A few ideas... nominations, no base challenges, lims, icon of the month
As you know, I'm always trying to think of ways to keep things interesting! So I have a few ideas to throw at you guys, and then we'll take a poll!
1.) Would you guys like your icons to be nominated at hp_awards? ... They're doing this over at hpicontest and I think it's a fantastic idea! I would, of course, nominate the winning icons (and on special occasions ones I thought should have won but didn't). The category I would nominate to would be my own choosing, but all winning icons would be nominated. Although, this presents a problem in the hush and base challengs as they all look the same... Which brings be to my next point!
2.) I'm thinking about doing away with the Base Challenge... I think generally the base challenge gets the lowest turnout and it would actually be a load off for us to not have to worry about this each week. The challenges are becoming somewhat overwhelming because there's so many entries in each category and I thought this would be the best one to do away with. I know a lot of people don't participate in the base challenge because it isn't their work. I know I personally like to crop my own images and its hard to call something your work when you start from a base... Also, with the base and the hush, we have two challenges where all the images look so very similar. It's just getting a bit redundant to me. I would still keep the hush challenge, but perhaps it wouldn't be a cap every week. Maybe sometimes we'll just say "a hush icon of Hermione" for example... Just so they don't all look the same each week!
3.) I'm thinking of doing a LIMS competition here. For those of you who don't know what that is, it stands for "Last Icon Maker Standing." Basically here we'd have one challenge per week and instead of there being winners, people are voted out of the LIMS until there is eventually... That's right, you guessed it: a last icon maker standing... If we did a LIMS we'd still have regular challenges running every TWO weeks. We'd have to work out a few kinks, since all the timelines would be clashing, but I think this would be really fun!
4. What about icon of the month? Back when I started house_challenge (I don't mod there anymore, but I'm actually currently temping while the mod is on vacation) we did icon of the month, and then eventually icon of the year. Each week when a mod posts challenge results, there would be a poll in the same post where you have to pick your favorite of the first place icons from that week. Once we had four icons from four weeks, we would vote on icon of the month. After twelve of these, we would have icon of the year... Rinse and repeat ;)
