my face after this post.

This sounds so fascinating! ESPECIALLY RUSALKI. =D I just love the new meaning for this word. AND I DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT ANTI-ICONS, SO THANK YOU, EMILY. <3

(I still don't quite get what an "entropy" is, though. In your world, I mean. Is it some sort of abstract evil power? How much of it materializes? Does it hurt? I'm not supposed to understand it yet, am I? ^^)

Neither did I, until I made them up! XD But the bits about Acheiropoieta are all true. The most fascinating stuff, I swear.

(And actually the meaning of "entropy" in our world is similar to the meaning the word has in real life. Aria put it really, really well in her GS Intro Post over on her journal, so I'm going to steal that wholesale. XD

"There's a couple different kinds of magic. When the story starts, the only kind of magic there has ever been is illusion. Dark Things which are Beyond Our Ken bring more. The problem is that magic--all magic--is deeply entropic in the world of Gilded Souls, and that's affected life on every level. Food rots faster, people go mad more frequently, machines rust, break down, and fail, and the only way to maintain social order is to enforce a rigid social hierarchy. For that reason, democracy never flourished, communism never existed, and imperialism is still the order of the day."Entropy is a destructive concept that breaks our world ( ... )

This whole concept.
IT FASCINATES ME LIKE WHOA.

And I think I'm already in love with that world, a little bit. <3

Just in case you were asking a more general vocabulary question, as in, what dictionary definition of entropy are we using: (courtesy of my Oxford English dictionary)-- lack of pattern or organization; disorder; or, a doctrine of inevitable social decline and degeneration. Entropy is often used loosely to refer to the breakdown or disorganization of any system.

In the world of Gilded Souls, EVERYTHING breaks down faster--food, metal, sanity, the laws of physics, etc etc--due to a high physical and metaphysical degree of entropy in the world.

We are not using the word 'entropy' in the technical Laws Of Thermodynamics sense. Unfortunately, the world of Gilded Souls is so chaotic and entropic that even the 'laws' of thermodynamics are sometimes more like 'suggestions.'

I have this horrid love/fascination behind cannibalism lately, so reading the bits about the Starving Men was intriguing, but my favorite is by far the Regenerating Men. That is so wonderfully fucked up.
