Shots Fired at Convention Center-  I wasn't working last night but when you're in my profession, fear can never be a factor in doing a job that the public expects from you.  On the other hand, keeping that fear at bay isn't always that easy- especially for some contract security officers who are doing a job they thought simple with little pay ( Read more... )

Can't be any safer than locked up in a windowless room in the basement of the Convention Center. LOL.

But seriously- I miss being on patrol on the front lines. That was where all the excitement was....in those years gone by. =O(

But...I am safe. *With my donuts* =O)

It's funny- I ran into one of the contract security supervisors in the service area of the car dealership. Stan (A good guy and fellow bowler) gave me the low down on the incident.

There was a little bit of chaos trying to get the people to leave through another exit (Away from the shooting) but things went smooth.....I'll get my managers perspective tomorrow. On our end it looks like it was handled in a very professional manner.

I'm sure the MPD Investigators are pouring over our digital archives....looking for the suspect(s).
In situations like that, it's a challenge to get your cameras trained on the areas where the people are fleeing from. *The sound direction of the pop, pop, pop, pop* is a good clue.

BTW- I put my gun away for awhile. Don't need it right now. LOL. =O)

I'm always worried about that very thing when we marshall at the New Orleans convention center. The marshalling yard is in a seedy neighborhood.

Well, if you ever make it to our Marshalling Yard- it's as safe, and organized and near the top of the heap as compared to other Convention Centers as you can get.

If you ever make it to ours- let me know, I'll arrange for red carpet treatment!!! =O)

That would be a blast to meet you while we're working. I hope we get some freight going your way this year.
