There will be no 2008 Super bowl party our my house.
Our salesman from Long Fence and Home got fired.
Short version:
Salesman screwed up. We scared company to fix our contract. Scared company too much. No final contract until recently. Sliding glass door replaced January 2008. We are still painting and fixing walls around the patio door.
Long version:
We wanted Long Fence and Home to fix a rusting window sill for many reasons. The number one being it was too expensive to brick up the window inside our shower stall. The "custom window" was not expensive enough so we need other work before they would sign a contract. We decided to replace the howling sliding door (Note 1). Salesman wrote up a contract.
Weeks later, the Measuring Man showed up. Measuring Man measured the window and said the sill needed replacing. The whole reason for signing a contract was to replace the rusting metal window sill inside our shower stall. The only line on the pre-made form contract was "rotting window sill". Salesman said our sill was rusting not "rotting" so he did not check that box on the contract. Apparently he did not correctly note "rusting sill" on the paperwork either. Measuring Man went to measure the patio door. He said the opening was too big, they did not make a door that size. Apparently they only do "custom windows" not "custom doors". We wrote many nasty letters and faxes saying "WTF". They agreed to replace the rusting sill. Eventually we reached a compromise on the patio door. Every time the contract changed, they sent the Wife the revised paperwork. By the time the paper work was "perfect", and they ordered the window, more than nine (9) months had passed. They fixed the sill and installed the window. They fixed the opening and installed a compromise patio door.
Instead of having six plus (6+) months to get ready for the 2008 Super Bowl party, we now had less than three weeks. But this is the busy time of year for both our jobs. No party.
I am very happy with the new window. I do not like a window in our shower stall, but this one works well. Installer Crew, Measure Man and Salesman, assure us this one will not rust like the last one. If we had a second story bathroom, I think this would be an excellent "custom window". Especially if the window was in a regular wall.
I am okay with the patio door.
I am not happy with Salesman (our ex-salesman) who ripped us off on several different things. He also caused his company much grief.

Note 1)
When they installed our new patio doors, they took out the old sliding door. Apparently sliding doors of that size often lose their seals and leak water or howl during winds.
