xsavvyx suggested a great idea for a cocktail blog post, which i've just gotten around to posting at barspoon:
n-bottle bars. (Is it useful or desirable to post here when i post there? I'm never sure, but i thought i'd mention it this time because it's a special sort of post -- not just the usual rambling about some drink with a mediocre photo..

Sadly, there's not much actual music/booze crossover in the content..

The n-bottle bar post was actually really interesting to me, since I would likely fall into that category of people you describe. I wouldn't really stock myself up on alcohol supplies the way you and Philip did, but it's quite helpful to know a reasonable three things to buy on the side. (I also like that your list started with gin, which is obviously my favorite too!)

I think I'd recommend maraschino liqueur -- then you can make a Hemingway Daiquiri (more complex and interesting than its namesake (the Daiquiri part, not Hemingway), assuming you are not a grapefruit supertaster) and a Beachcomber (never tried it, but it looks good! 1-1/2 rum, 3/4 lime, 1/2 Cointreau, and a dash of maraschino), among others.
After that, it probably starts to be worthwhile to get another base. How are you on whiskey? Brandy? Maybe I'll try to make you a gin drink you like, next time you're in town :)
