God, save me from Mary Sues!!

Well my CSI muse may have bitten the dust (may she rest in peace) but I do still love to read fanfic. The only problem I have is with Mary Sues. I have, at last count, roughly 25 different fandoms that I read fic in and it seems that none of them are immune to The Mary Sue virus ( Read more... )

Can I hug you for that? Honestly, it's one reason why I read slash... (apart from the obvious hotness :-))

It gets even worse in the RPS fandoms, cause there the writers don't even disguise their Mary Sues, but write their own characters falling in love with xxx... And if I see another 14 year old girl fall for some 20-something soccerplayer and he fall for her... Well I guess, you know what I mean :-))...

I couldn't agree with you more! It's nothing more than the writer trying to work herself into the story, as far as I'm concerned. *shakes head and rolls eyes*
That's not why I want to read fics. Not at all.

I'm glad that the Nick/Warrick fandom (which is to one I like most) is pretty much Mary Sue free. Or I just have missed those fics, that may be the case too.

I remember the story and I don't think it was a real Mary Sue. They usually give me an itchy rash *g* and I didn't get any from your story.

No, I'm still here. I'm just not writing CSI fic anymore. My muse has moved on. I still read the occasional CSI fic but it all seems to be GSR related these days or filled with Mary Sues....which is where this rant came from this morning. I was poking around over at ff.net and every single story was either GSR or about "the new girl in the lab". *barf*

And now we're hearing that Gary Dourdan is leaving? This is very depressing news and totally ruins my favorite CSI pairing. *pout*

I also dig Nick/Grissom but for some reason, I've never warmed up Nick/Greg.

Where has all the good slash gone? *sigh*

I'm not even watching CSI anymore - since they butchered Rick's character I'm off the show. Maybe later, when it's all gone off air I can return to slashing my men again. But right now *pukes*

So what new fandoms are you into? I've kid of slipped into SPN but there's no-one there to slash!

You'd probably be surprised by some of the other fandoms I like. Nothing current other than CSI. As a matter of fact, some of these shows haven't been on in decades....and some are anime or cartoons. A rahter ecclectic mix if I do say so myself.
