EXCESS SKIN

Nov 06, 2012 15:00

So I was wondering, for those of you who have already had a weight loss surgery. How long do you have to wait to have the excess skin removed? The surgeon has already told me that if it's a problem that she would recommend a tummy tuck. But when I see the youtube video's I wonder why people aren't getting the skin removed.

skin: excessive

I'm assuming a lot of people don't get it removed because of various insurance issues or the fact that their doctor doesn't want to do any surgery like that until they are done losing weight in order to avoid multiple surgeries.

yeah that makes sense. I've talked to my insurance carrier already and they did say as long as it wasn't for cosmetic reasons it would be approved. Of course I would have to get referrals/recommendations for the tummy tuck. I was just wondering why so many people leave that skin hanging.... thanks for your prompt reply

You sound very judgemental. There are many reasons people don't opt for COSMETIC surgery. Sure there are some people have medical reasons for getting a panniculectomy but that is a medical procedure. A tummy tuck is a cosmetic procedure. I had WLS to get healthy not to look a certain way.

I am not being judgmental at all. I am asking questions and getting advice like everyone else here.

In my case, I cannot see subjecting myself to more pain and time off work. My insurance would cover a pannus reduction due to the possibility of infections, but I found using powder reduced my problems on any areas.

Its a personal choice for many. For some, plastic surgery is necessary due to infections and other problems.

I have been offered it twice by two doctors. Unless I have a problem in the future, no more surgery for me.

Please excuse my ignorance but I really don't know, which is why I am asking questions...Are you using regular powder? Like baby powder?

Most of the time I do use talc powder. I have gold bond that i use if needed. But overall the talc works great for me. I cannot use anything with perfumes (allergies) and I get hot and sweaty at work often, so this helps keep down on chafing and infections.

Because in having kids and after that I'd have little kids. Little kids and that surgery would be disastrous.

I cannot afford a full bilateral stomach procedure.
