First Kiss? A/N
I've wanted to write for my DW OTP for the longest time. Sigh. Happily, it was finally achieved. Though, it wasn't exactly from the night I 'promised' cosmiko I'd really sit down and think about ideas. Which I did, but unhappily nothing really writeable came up. The idea actually struck when I was trying to translate this japanese Zhou Tai/Sun Quan (with background Sun Ce/Zhou Yu ^^v) fanfic... there was a lot of use of the word 'kiss'. ^^ And I kept getting distracted cos it was so, so, fluffy and giving me cavities. And then somehow I had something in mind to write about~ So even though it wasn't really inspired by the fic, perse, it gets credit~
Hardest part was most certainly characterization. Frankly, how can you write without having characterization? Firstly, SGZ and SGYY basically have different accounts (prime example being Zhou Yu, who can totally be two different persons in the two versions), DW is another version. TV drama can be another version (if only because ZL-sama in TV version is THE BEST). Add fanon interpretation and I've a small collection of Sun Ce's and Zhou Yu's to choose from that are all at least slightly different and wonderful in their own way. *faints* I took my favourite method, that being, "see where it takes me" but obviously it doesn't work too well, 'cos without a firm idea of the character, well, when the 'idea' of the character flunctuates I'm in trouble, isn't it. Inconsistent characterization and all that. Hence I let it sit around for some time after writing so I can better see if I wrote some horrible hybrid of the characters... This is also perhaps the first? fic of mine to get a "Last modified" ^^; I don't tend to like to look at my fics once 'done'... sometimes feel so bad I won't stop editing and/or won't put it up at all. ^.^; But this one, I really hadn't liked the way I ended it so left it around also for that. And after a day, the last paragraphs were entirely rewritten, sort of twice. Whew. But at least this 3rd version gave me a better feel (something of a "ii kanji"?) than previous ones, so I thought I'd let it be. This one, at least, survived the critical 'second look'. =)
