The first night we made it to Bottomless Lake State Park. The sign at the entrance said that it costs ten dollars to camp in the improved camp sites and five dollars for day use. We did some one-sided bartering and set up our tent on the top of a hill--definitely not an improved campsite. Besides, it was almost midnight by the time we got there, so it was really just day-use, right?

A few yards to the left of our tent was a sharp dropoff that led down to a small unnamed lake. For breakfast the next morning we walked a few hundred yards down the ridge where we set up our tent. The small lake there was named "Devil's Inkwell" It was a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the quiet of the park.

Despite hardly sleeping the night before (setting up the tent in the dark can lead to some really uncomfortable campsites) we do a great impersonation of happy awake people.

After waking up the rangers came by to tell us that there would be a triathalon taking place that day. We drove over to Bottomless Lake to watch the swimming portion and take a dip in the lake.

Then, later that day we drove an hour west to find another place to camp. We stopped in the Smokey the Bear museum and a great art gallery where we got directions to some ranchland where the owner allows people to camp. Paige showed off her elite off-roading skills to get us there.

Once we got settled in the new campsite my number one priority was to get a nap in.

Paige, on the other hand, somehow found the energy to go take pictures.

I took pictures too. I tried to experiment with unique angles and interesting perspectives, which begged the question "Are you trying to take a picture up my shorts?"

Luckily we had the whole are to ourselves. One car came up, but left immediately. I assume they were scared off by the cryptic gang sign on the back of the car.

These horses on the highway weren't keeping up with the speed of traffic.

Luckily they took the next exit.

I'm sure I annoyed Paige half to death on the way home with all the pictures I took inside the car.

Unfortunately she was too busy driving to take any pictures of me, so I had to take matters into my own hands: handheld self portrait style. Funny you never see the great photographers taking images this way.
