Juxtaposing my own experience is a good suggestion, if that had been what was allowed for the assignment. As is, I didn't want to entirely re-write a paper that's already been written. If I were seriously thinking about publishing this, yes, I can definitely see your point.
But I'm lazy and in college and this whole freaking journal is one personal rant after another. This one just happens to have scientific fact behind it. I see no issue with combining the two in an informal setting such as this.
But I will definitely keep your suggestion in mind for the future; because you're right. If this were any other medium I wouldn't dream of presenting this due to the bias.

...some owners do not take seriously the task of dog-on-dog socialization in the critical early stages of life. This would be my dog's problem. *sighs*
