LOL about the balconies. (I would say plot is what gets them on the balcony - I end up writing a lot of fic that's basically all, "... and so that's why they're on the balcony now, SO THERE." *g*)

There's no plot that's too trite; it's all in what you do with it.

Yes, this. Basically I start with a moment, or feeling, or image (or crazy idea like "why the hell are Prentiss and Reid having a sexy conversation conversation with Hotch???" or snippet of dialogue and then kind of... zoom out. But I also feel that stories can totally NOT be about anything, simply a ramble of character and emotion that kind of ties itself up.
