First it was a dream.

Then it was a gag document, prompted by my coworker.

Now...

it's a website.

I just read the whole thing from your link on facebook. It's brilliant! Where was this site a couple of years ago when I was trying to explain the merits of clicker training to my parents? You really should write a book.

Maybe if the website does well enough, I could turn it into one!

I've already read most of this website, and it's awesome, Carol. I want to send it to everyone.

My coworkers keeps bugging me to turn it into a book and publish it. Maybe some day...

Please tell me you didn't put this up (complete with numerous Labrador Retriever mentions) just because of my new puppy? ;)

We're starting puppy classes with the clicker training method in two weeks. Now I'll be able to get the jump on things and look like an apple-polishing suckass.

Actually Salty's doing really well, he's mastered "sit" and while there have been a few puppy puddles in the house - hey, nobody's perfect - the requires-a-stoop-and-scoop messes have all been outside.

This obviously took a lot of work, and I'm impressed. And will be referring to it often in the next few weeks. Well done.

Only kinda-sorta. I wrote it earlier in the year, after my coworker dared me to, and it's been sort of on the back burner ever since. Your getting Salty reminded me of it, and it kicked me into gear ( ... )

I should also mention that it's meant to be amusing, so if you could let me know if any parts especially amuse you, that'd be helpful too.

...Aaand the Lab mentions were already written in. Keep in mind I spend seven hours a day working with those suckers.

:D
I read the whole thing, and now I want a puppy.
Except not really, because I am lazy, inconsistant, REALLY bad at saying no to sad puppydog eyes, and frequently away for days at a time.
So I want an imaginary puppy.

Bravo on the site. That looks like a lot of work and pent-up frustration went into it. I hope you do make it into a book one day. When Sean gets around to building his time machine, I will buy a copy and bring it back to when we first got Buddy.

I wonder what volunteers who work at PADS will think when they read it - my attitude in this book is SO different from the one I try to exude in puppy class!

If you published this, I'd buy it. Try to get a real publisher, and not Lulu. I'd like an *actual* copy of the book that isn't a ripoff of a deal ( ... )

Dogs learn to pick out words, but it doesn't come naturally to them. They find it difficult, and if the words sound too similar, they get mixed up easily. It's like listening to a foreign language - you can pick up a word here and there, but a lot of it sounds the same.

And Lulu books are real books! They have ISBN numbers and everything!

Good luck on the cat - they just love knocking stuff off of other stuff. A booby trap might be your best bet... like tie the cup to something that makes a lot of noise or something to scare him? Or set up sting operations with video cameras and mirrors?

Nods, but isn't it like $30 for a paperback book on there? Otherwise, it's just an ebook, right ( ... )

I think I can set the pricing any way I like.

You can totally clicker train cats. It's just difficult to get ANY animal to fight their natural instincts without someone in the room to modulate their behaviour. But yeah, clicker training mo fo, at least how-to-train bits, would work just as well for a cat. But the cat needs to be motivated. Dogs are easier to motivate, is all.
