I keep thinking about the conflicts in the Middle East, and I don't understand. what the hell is war used for? Isn't it to make a point, support an ideal, or to free (or oppress) people. shouldn't be inhabited by anyone...religion, instead of promoting
peace, causes people to fight eachother with little reason (crusades,
anyone?)
but, of course, people are products of circumstance. people in the
middle east fight because they have kind of been conditioned (woah
Brave New World flashback) to do so.
so now we can kind of blame it on society (yay!). people are stupid and
selfish and the government promotes it to get what it wants.

(Sorry to sound so depressing, it's probably just because my boyfriend broke up with me last night. I tossed a hand grenade through his bedroom window, though, and now I feel much better. Like I said, human nature.)

On the animal note, yes all humans are animals but they have brains larger than a pea. Our large brains help us RATIONALIZE things. So we dont have to feel like going around and ripping someone's guts out just because they 'tresspassed' on our territory, religious or otherwise.

Like mary_laura said, it's human nature. And we have to deal with it. War has been a part of life since before Biblical times. It's part of Satan's vendetta against God. With the apple came war and all the other horrors of the world. Or with the box, whichever you prefer.
