It is indeed the sensible thing to do. You can always have the occasional open post if you want.
I wish there were a better friends setting for the profile so that I could provide more information there for friends without just anybody being able to se it.

I don't blame you for going "Friends-Only" with your LJ.
Years ago, back at the CA firm, there was a trouble-maker "leader" within the company. He wasn't a partner, but he was responsible for the firm's Quality Control department overseeing all of our client engagements. He was also responsible for updating the staff on new CICA announcements.
Anyways, he was assigned to be my "Mentor" when I first started with the CA firm. I quickly learned he was quite the trouble-maker and didn't mind "roughing you up", so to speak. :/
My first bad experience took place on Day 1 at the company! He took me out for the first day "Mentor Lunch". The Mentor (tormentor?) mentioned that the company encouraged its staff to perform volunteer work (as a way to build business with potential clients). When I told him about the volunteer work that I did with the birds of prey at Mountsberg, the Tormentor quickly rebuffed my volunteer work: "Unless your bird sanctuary is bringing in rich clients, I suggest you find another place to

Makes me angry that people feel they need to control our personal lives.
It's not enough that we perform our duties to people in a professional manner, but every aspect of our personal lives is also expected to be directed to their benefit and to maintaining the image they want to present as well.
It's not fair. We're not even free to spend the money and free time we earned how we want. If we do, we have to do it under a veil of secrecy and deception and with the fear of being found out.
