EF14 - Where the postal service shall go postal.

Sep 02, 2008 16:31

Well what can I say its been a year already! It's worrying how fast the last year has gone and how little life has changed in the scheme of things, Yet some little ongoing annoyances always seem to come to the front just as holidays appear and threaten to put a downer on the whole week.

-Travel-
What everlupestripe tells you about being able to getup on at a specific time is a lie! Trying to wake him started at about 7:40 started with the more polite pokes and name wispering, once they were seen as a failure the only course of action was to throw the sheets off and turn the light on! At 8:00 the other wolf finaly woke.  We began our reletivly small journy to Manchester Airport and the larger one to EF.

Thinking that we would have to keep each other company for the duration of the journy it was a suprise to see fen_ra already in the queue ahead of us, oblivious to the fact he had two wolves stalking him he waited for the moment to strike! Sadly such things are not allowed anymore so we resorted to a tap on the shoulder. The Flight over to Germany was mostly uneventful except for the final moments of departure from the plain "Get down on it" and a rather suggestive eyebrow from somebody in the bunch.

-Convention-
It's quite amazing how you can find furs in the most unsuspecting places - coming up to the final train before we arrived in Suhl a gaggle or a Dis-Organization of Furrs stormed onto the train at the last moment (Which thankfully was 10 minutes behind schedule or they would have been 10 minutes too late to get the last train of the night!)
A "eurofurence14" sign loomed over the Ringberg front as we pulled up to the foyer. Stepping out it was plain to see that the living dead were indeed living tonight! Through the door we went the initial let down at the lack of a themed sign like last year was quickly blown away with a loud giggle as fur suiters were stalking the living much to the amusement of the other Furs. Meeting up with new and old friends we settled down for the night with a few pints of good German beer. The Convention was in full swing by the next we dragged ourself out of bed the next day, A quick visit to registration to claim the usual sponsor t-shirt and book as well as the themed and aptly named "blood sample" drink. A quick glance of the timetable showed that there were a lot of "Sigs" going on this year, with a wide variety suitable for most tastes from information about Czech Wolf dogs and the Red Foxs to Sigs covering writing, dancing and how the Fandom came to be. You could just as easy fill each day with sigs or you could spend time drinking at the bar and talking to friends and for the more outdoor kind here in the mountains there are a lot of good vistas and trails not to mention the Ringbergs pool and gym.

-Pawpet show-
The Paw pet show, now a tradition for a few years was once again the highlight of the convention! To an extent that there was physically not enough room to fit everybody in the hall. This is despite the comfy seats of last year being sacrificed for the more backbreaking, argument starting benches this year. Having to stare down a fur who's larger than you because you took his friends seat.(Even though said friend was not even in the room and it was a first come first serve affair on seats was fun for me.) Nothing came of this confrontation other than a glare and a few quips from both sides, Yeah I being was confrontational on that front but I wanted to see the show! Regardless of past actions we ended up being friends by the halfway point. The show was it's usual high standards of great backdrops, well thought out plot and executed puppetry. I know what your thinking the whole idea of watching a puppet show is either too childish or too absurd to be worth the watch, Get over it! We are all still big kids here. I highly recommend you attend EF if you can do and you MUST attend the paw pet show.

-Critique-
-Things i would change for next year?
-EF Time needs to be adjusted -1 hour to bring it back in line with German time. ;)
-The Theme could be taken a little further, it was good but it could have been better. The Zombie cards that were floating around were a good idea, but there never seemed to be enough.
-Some staff members need to slow down and be less panicky as your worried they are going to trip and brake themselves!
-Security needs to enforce the rules in the convention book rather than turn a blind eye.

This is perhaps a little too honest but I prefer to be honest than lie about how I see an event.
Overall its a fantastic convention with a lot more positives than negatives, Same as last year EF is a con that if you get the chance to you must attend it always is and will be a blast! See you all next year.
