So I'm back in my town again, and this time am old friend of mine is visiting me. She's the pianist who also has this TOS-thing (Thoracic outlet syndrome is this thing on the left side of my upper body that makes practicing violin a little tricky and sometimes painful for me). There's a funny brothers-in-arms feeling in hanging out with her. Her ( Read more... )

90's cartoons promised smell-o-vision in the future and they have so far failed us.

That's heartwarming that your friend keeps your dream alive. :) Willpower can span vast obstacles.
I love discussions like those, that reach deeper and probe the parts of your personality (and others) that cause you to light up and speak with heart. Although, I usually confuse people, jumping from the side of the countering skeptic scientist to the empathetic abstract artist, depending on which contrasts my conversationalist the most. Arguments that agree never last quite as long or seem near as stimulating, I think. As long as things stay civil :)

Peer support is the best. I don't think I would quit anymore without people like her, but it makes it easier to bounce back from despair. Life gets easier when your general mood stays positive.

You are a much better talker than me :D I tend to balance the conversation too but not to that extent. I understand different views but normally stay safely in my own shoes:) and yes, civility is what keeps the conversation enjoyable for everyone.

I didn't know you played the violin... I played it for more than 14 years, but then somehow got bored of it...

I've never mentioned? Well, I try to avoid all the school-music-practicing-stuff here since it's very close to all I talk about in real life.
But yea, I study to be a musician and my instrument is the violin:)

I totally understand quitting active playing. It's not the most easily rewarding hobby. I've tried to stop several times over the years, but never succeeded :D but holy crap, 14 years is a long time! I've only played for 15 years myself.
