A/N 2: I'm really sorry this took me so long, and I'm extra sorry that it's so short after having taken so long. Also, I'm sorry for the complete and total lack of porn/anything resembling porn. It was my first try at getting characters to flirt or something. (I also apologize for all the author's notes...)
A/N 3: I don't know if this is at all what you had in mind. But I hope that you like it. ^-^ And big thanks to my idea girl, for helping me work through the dialogue that wanted to kill me and for the title. *smishes*
Sam had finally convinced his brother, Dean, to help him rake the leaves scattered all over their yard. It had taken his natural ability to annoy Dean into anything - an ability all little brothers everywhere possess - and agreeing to finish unpacking the rest of the boxes on his own. Sam had no problem with that, seeing as there were only a few left scattered around their new house. Most of their things were finally unpacked and put where they planned on keeping them for a long time. They'd even finally gotten the television set up and working, which was part of what made getting Dean out of the house to do yard work so difficult.
Honestly, Sam didn't really care much about the leaves being in the yard. He and his brother weren't ones for keeping everything perfect or anything. But they had just moved here, and he didn't want to end up on any possible 'bad neighbor' list or something (not that he really though anyone around there would have a list like that, but one could never be too careful). And the houses on either side of where the brothers now resided were cleared of any evidence of the autumn season. And Sam wanted to make this a permanent stay for Dean and him.
The town wasn't a real small town or anything, but it was a big city either. They'd have their fill of big cities in the past, and settling down somewhere a little less fast-paced seemed like a good idea. And Sam liked it, so far. They hadn't met anyone yet, not really, but the people looked nice enough. So he decided he was going to make sure everything worked towards keeping their life here good.
As he continued raking leaves into one huge pile - because, yeah, maybe he was a huge dork that really wanted to attempt jumping into it - Sam didn't see the person standing next to him until his brain finally registered his brother saying his name. When he turned to ask what Dean wanted and, instead of seeing Dean, saw a man quite a few inches shorter than him standing there, he shriek-like sound that he would deny to the day he died escaped his lips as he jumped back, tripping over his own two feet and landing rather ungracefully on his ass.
Sam couldn't stop the flush that worked its way up his neck to his face as his brother's laughter rang in his ears - and as much as he fought it, there was no containing the bubble of laughter fighting to escape. So much for making a good first impression with the neighbors... he thought before finally lifting his gaze to the man that caused his fall in the first place. The guy was smiling down at him, but he wasn't laughing so Sam figured that maybe, even though he'd made a complete fool of himself, this guy might not hold it against him. When he'd stopped laughing long enough to take in breath, Sam took the hand the man above him held out and allowed the guy to help haul his lanky frame off the ground.
Sam smiled at the man who helped him up but felt utterly unable to speak when he was so focused on how his hand seemed to tingle after it was released from the considerably shorter man. (Though, really, just about everyone was shorter than Sam. This guy was just a lot shorter than usual). Luckily, and rather fittingly Sam thought, he was saved from having to get his brain to work by the oh so unmanly shriek that came from his older brother, who also seemed to jumped out of his skin at the arrival of yet another unfamiliar person in their yard. Though, Sam noted grumpily, Dean had managed to stay on his feet. Of course that didn't stop him from laughing at his brother the way Dean had done earlier. Sam felt he should return the favor, after all.
Sam noticed how the man beside him had joined in his laughter this time around. When they finally calmed themselves, he allowed himself to admit that he wouldn't mind hearing that sound again. Rather than letting himself get lost in those thoughts, though, he looked back to Dean and the other, dark haired man standing beside him and noted how the other stranger looked more than a little confused, what with his head slightly tilted to the side, his eyes huge and staring at Dean curiously. Though he was smiling, so Sam figured he probably wasn't offended by all their laughing.
"I gotta say," Sam jumped a little at the sudden break in the silence surrounding the little group by the man beside him, "when we came over to introduce ourselves to the new neighbors, I didn't realize we'd end up with a show, too."
Sam finally took a closer look at the man beside him, who was now smirking at all of them. His eyes were a warm hazel and Sam could only imagine what they would look like if the sun weren't covered by the clouds blanketing the sky. His hair was short, but not too short, and looked soft to the touch. Before Sam could make a fool of himself - more of a fool of himself - the man held his hand out in front of him.
"They call me Gabriel and that's my little brother Castiel," he started nodding to where Dean and Castiel were standing, and Sam's brain finally started up enough to force his own hand to shake the man's - Gabriel's. He couldn't keep the smile off of his face as his hand was wrapped in a firm, confident grip - even more so when he looked over to see that Dean and Castiel had stopped shaking hands, but had failed to let the other's hand go.
"I'm Sam," Sam started before leaning in conspiratorially as Gabriel let go of his hand - and there was that suspicious tingly feeling in Sam's hand again - and lowering his voice, nodding in Dean's direction, "and the one who currently seems stuck to your brother is my brother Dean."
He watched as Gabriel turned his head to the two who were still staring at each other. Sam's grin grew wider at the sight of what seemed to be Gabriel's trademark smirk forming on the man's face. When Gabriel turned back to face him, Sam realized that they were both still leaning in towards each other and he slowly drew himself back a little. Gabriel did the same and both turned back to stare at the show their brothers were making. And when Gabriel handed Sam a piece of his candy bar - and had he been carrying that with him the whole time? - Sam didn't even hesitate before taking it and popping it into his mouth, smile never falling from his face.

Sam wasn't all that surprised to see Gabriel and Castiel standing on his and Dean's doorstep when he answered the door. Both Dean and him had heard the doorbell ring, but his older brother couldn't be bothered to stop watching the television since they'd finally gotten it unpacked and working. What he was surprised to see was the assortment of stuff Castiel was holding.
He quirked an eyebrow at Gabriel and nodded in Castiel's direction questioningly, but the man only shrugged his shoulders as though to say 'What can you do?'. Sam just smiled and called for Dean to come to the door when Castiel said "I need both you and your brother to be present before I can gift you with these..."
Sam could practically hear Gabriel's eye-roll but only continued smiling at the both of them as Dean pushed him over enough so that Sam stood in front of Gabriel and Dean stood in front of Castiel. Sam would probably have rolled his eyes at his brother's less than subtle move of getting closer to Castiel, but he didn't really mind all that much if it meant he got to be centered in Gabriel's attention.
A few moments passed where nothing was said or done until Sam was afraid they would be steering into even more awkward territory than their little show in the leaves.
"So, um... you wanted to... show us something?' he asked uncertainly, because he didn't want to sound grabby and say 'you wanted to give us something?', but he also didn't want to sound like he was trying to mock Castiel by saying 'you wanted to gift us with something?'. So he figured the words he came up with were the best way to keep from making a fool of himself once more in Gabriel's presence.
His word choice didn't seem to upset anybody, so he counted it as a win in his mind even as Castiel started shuffling all his stuff around a bit. Sam refocused on all of the items in the blue-eyed man's hands - and was that a broom? He didn't get the chance to ask before Castiel began speaking.
"Seeing as you and your brother," Castiel started - Sam noticed the man's gaze was fixed firmly on Dean the entire time, "have just moved to this house, it is only sensible that we bring you these housewarming gifts -"
"I told him that a six pack of beer and a potted plant would do just as well, but noo," Gabriel interrupted, his hands waving dramatically in front of him. Sam saw how the man's hazel eyes were focused on him as he spoke. Even when he rolled his eyes at the glare Castiel sent his way for the interruption - and Sam thought that had probably only been possible after a lot of practicing. He found himself wondering what other possible talents the man may have practiced. And okay, he really needed to focus on what Castiel was telling them.
"As I was saying, it is only traditional to bring new neighbors certain housewarming items," Castiel continued as he pulled out what Sam was now sure was a broom from the pile of things in his arms. Had Castiel not looked so serious about all of it, Sam would have laughed at the way Dean started when the broom was practically thrust into his arms.
"A broom, to help sweep away evil - "
"I tried to suggest a dust buster," Gabriel cut in and Sam almost lost it then, but at the annoyed look on both Castiel's and Dean's faces, he thought it best to keep his mouth shut.
Castiel held out a little pack of white votive candles, also to Dean, "Candles for lighting your life - "
"Target was outta flashlights..."
Sam couldn't contain the snort of laughter that had bubbled inside him but quickly stowed it away when he felt the glares of Dean and Castiel on him. Before he could feel properly chastised, though, another laugh was heard and all eyes moved to Gabriel, who looked utterly unable to contain his laughter as well. Before Sam knew it he and Gabriel were doubled over laughing, each supporting the other. Without their hold on each other, Sam was sure they'd fall over. And he certainly wasn't going to complain if Gabriel wanted to hold onto him - but it was probably a good thing he was laughing so hard, it helped him believe that he wouldn't get caught blushing at his own thoughts.

Sam plopped down on the couch beside Gabriel, handing the other man a beer. Their brothers were out doing something, though Sam highly doubted either of them finally caved and asked the other on a date. Not that he could really say much, as he had yet to say anything to Gabriel. Though he could swear that some of the looks and things that came from the hazel-eyed man were beyond suggestive and Sam knew that it couldn't be accidental with how many times it happened. But that didn't make it any easier. He always felt himself blushing over the smallest things with Gabriel. He was just thankful he was able to hold a conversation with Gabriel; Sam could just imagine how horribly awkward it would be if he acted as incredibly shy as he felt when they were together. Especially since with how often Dean and Castiel hung out, it was inevitable that he and Gabriel spent a lot of time together.
So with Dean and Castiel out and about, he and Gabriel opted to just hand around at Sam's watching a couple movies. It felt like it had been a long week and Sam was really looking forward to just relaxing with Gabriel, a couple beers, and some good movies. He hadn't realize quite how tired he was when he started their movie and he settled comfortably in his seat, though. His eyes drooped within the first few minutes of the movie and he'd never realized just how comfortable it felt just sitting with Gabriel next to him and before Sam knew it, he'd fallen asleep.
Sam didn't know how long he slept for. He woke to the soft feeling of fingers scratching softly along his scalp, carding gently through his hair and wanted nothing more than to fall back into the comfortable sleep he'd fallen into. Snuggling closer into the soft body pillow he was using, Sam sighed contentedly and pushed his head up into the light pressure he felt there. His lips curved into a small, pleased smile as he breathed in deep. The pillow he was apparently cuddled up against smelled sweet, like skittles, and when he took another breath Sam could have sworn that his pillow started laughing at him. That gave him pause and he really really didn't want to open his eyes to find himself snuggling up against a soft, warm Gabriel. So, of course, that was exactly what he saw when he finally did open his eyes.
Well, what he actually saw was a pair of warm, hazel eyes smiling softly down at him. Sam felt his own eyes widen and he knew he had to be blushing a deep red in his embarrassment. He squeezed his eyes shut tight and unwrapped himself from around the Gabriel-pillow and put some space between them, "I'm really sorry for..." Sam cleared his throat, eyes still shut, "for using you as a pillow..."
A gentle, and surprisingly non-mocking chuckle, came from the spot Sam knew Gabriel was seated next to him and Sam didn't know what to make of it. Sure, he and Gabriel had gotten along together since they met, and their brothers were really hitting it off, but he'd just snuggled next to his friend. He was pretty sure he'd die of embarrassment at any moment. Even more so when he felt hands cup each side of his face and turn his head towards the other man. But Sam was determined to keep his eyes shut, like he was a kid again and believed 'if I can't see them, they can't see me' was a fact.
"Sam," Gabriel's voice was soft and affectionate and Sam shook his head side to side, he did not want to open is eyes, "Sam, look at me."
And that was it. Gabriel asked Sam to open his eyes and Sam couldn't just not do what Gabriel asked of him. And man, he was further gone for this guy than he'd realized. Sam slowly opened his eyes. A smile stretched across Gabriel's face as Sam looked at him and he couldn't help but give a small smile in return. Gabriel's thumbs stroked softly at his cheeks, just below his eyes, and Sam's eyes fluttered as he leaned into the man's touch.
"I was wondering when I'd finally get to do this."
Sam looked at Gabriel then, a question in his eyes that Sam never had the chance to voice as Gabriel's lips sealed softly over his own. It was a gentle, chaste kiss and left Sam wanting more, so much more; after weeks of waiting for anything. When Gabriel leaned back from him, dropping one of his hands from Sam's face to Sam's thigh, Sam couldn't stop himself from rushing forward and capturing Gabriel's lips against his own, slowly running his tongue along the man's bottom lip.
The hand on Sam's thigh tightened perfectly and Sam allowed himself to be lowered until he was lying back across the cushions of his couch. He watched as Gabriel settled himself between his open legs and couldn't help but smile shyly up at the man who always made him feel so incredibly shy and yet completely comfortable. And as Gabriel lowered his body over Sam's, Sam thought that he was never more happy that his brother had caved when he mentioned wanting to move into this house. Sam was sure he was going to love it there for a long time coming.
