AN APOLOGY TO BREED BAN ENTHUSIASTS

For those of you who are just joining us or may have forgotten - i am the proud owner of a pit bull - dachshund crossbreed named Mojo. Everyone who has met Mojo seems to like him - even though he is rambunctious, sometimes overly enthusiastic, as well as a big flirt with the ladies. He is my therapist and confidant as i struggle to get through

Your welcome! *smile* My little Mojo is my pride and joy, because while he is not my first dog (i have also owned an australian cattledog mix, a german shepherd-lab mix, a lhasa-poo mix) he is probably the best dog as far as obedience, intelligence and devotion. All of my other dogs were also obedient, semi-intelligent, and devoted... but mojo has all but the german shepherd mix beat on a stable personality and tolerance of children. He really is the best dog. :)

Good luck in your endeavors. I have found that people want to believe whatever the easiest story is, the one they don't have to do anything to obtain. Unfortunately, that also means it's generally the wrong story... It's hard to change their minds, until they meet one of the good reps of the breed, like Charlie and Maggie, and maybe even Mojo. :)

I don't know you... I was just journal hopping from post to post and saw a comment you made on the movie icon community, and wanted to say this post made me very happy! I LOVE pitbulls and animals in general and find it SO disturbing that people would find an 'easy solution' by exterminating a breed based on prejudice and ignorance.

One day I was walking out of Petsmart, with my big goofy GSD tugging at the leash, he'd just recieved his AKC CGC, I was very proud and letting him be his rambunctious self. A man and his wife were walking past us, and the man pushed his wife aside to "protect" her. He muttered a comment I could barely make out, something ot the effect of how 'everyone has shepherds nowadays even though they're so vicious'. I looked down the leash, to my little baby, who worked so hard with me to learn to search and rescue people. It dawned on me that, not everyone saw my smart, beautiful, nosy baby for what he was...they just see a breed, just a stereotype.

So here is my appology for you. I'm sorry people like you (and I) have to work so hard to educate people (that are so easy to dislike) that dogs, like people, are more than just "breed". Dogs like ours, after all, are all heart.

And now I have to add you to my friends list, hope you don't mind ;)

This is another example of ignorance breeding fear. People fear what they don't understand, and most folks are lazy as well, so they are happy to sit on their authoritative asses and propagate their idiocy rather than take the time to find out the truth.

I had a pit a few years ago, Maggie, and she was a doll. Since then, I have met many wonderful pit & pit mixes, and they've all been sweet dogs. Maybe someday people will wake up =(
