Wow, that's really powerful.

I think that homophobia is the new "popular" form of discrimination among conservatives -- just as discrimination against "colored" people was once justified by conservatives and the religious right, so now is discrimination against homosexuals and transsexuals.

Thankfully, the company I work for is extremely open-minded about this sort of thing and has hired several openly gay employees! :)

Let's just hope that others can catch on to these sort of open-minded policies and attitudes of tolerance and acceptance.

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. While I obviously believe discrimination is wrong, I think the assumption that conservatives as a group discriminate against homosexuals or transsexuals is incorrect. Please keep in mind that not only are there many "live and let live" conservatives, but that there were quite a few liberals who discriminated openly against blacks as late as the seventies.

While someone may belong to a certain political party, that shouldn't allow us to assume their opinions on subjects or make generalizations.

I apologize for my faux pas.

My correction is this: homophobia is the new, popular discrimination among those who choose to discriminate. Because unfortunately, there are just some people who want to hate others for whatever reason they can come up with. You know..."f*ck skin color, everybody's blue. Then what would all these bigots do? Instead of your tone, they'd hate your size..."

Anyway, sorry for pinning the discrimination problem on conservatives. I suppose I got the wrong idea because of the whole political debate on gay marriage, which generally is divided into liberals = for, conservatives = against. I understand this does not necessarily mean those conservatives against gay marriage are against gays. For instance, I am against giving people any tax breaks or other special benefits just for being married (as it is this inequity which contributes to the gay marriage problem in the first place), but I do not discriminate against married people.

I did not mean to offend. Sorry for any misunderstandings :)

It's all cool. You're right - in Washington it seems to be conservative = against gays, but out in the real world a lot of conservatives are all about living without hate.

Then you got the people in the middle like me, who think if you aren't hurting anyone - who cares? :)
