Furniture Shopping

I've been doing a lot of this recently. You know what I noticed? Furniture is made for people bigger than me. About 50% bigger. Most single chairs I sit in have enough room for another small person to squeeze in. My legs hang off the front with my feet off the ground. Coffee tables can be big enough to seat four people for dinner (I seriously saw ( Read more... )

It's expensive because it's large, it takes a while to make (done by hand), it takes a lot of materials, and the cost to transport/store it is high due to the size and weight

As for why it's large, seeing how you are a tiny person, just think about it... They could make it on the small side, so only the minority of people who are small could fit in it, or they could make it on the large side, so not only the majority of normal people can sit in it, but also large ones. Common sense G

Shopping for furniture fucking blows. By the way, if you were smart you would have waited until next weekend. Labor day weekend is one of the biggest sale weekends of the year, especially for furniture. I got all mine 50% during memorial day

Or you could search on Craigslist or the like. A lot of used furniture is in really good condition, and you can get it at a huge discount. As long as you have some way to transport it and you don't mind waiting around until you find the deal that's right for you, it's a good option.

Of course, If I had more money, I'd love to have nice, NEW furniture, but I'm still in grad school, so I'll live.

Another good point. I've heard tons of bad, bad stories about craigslist is the only thing that would make me a bit cautious. I remember one chick was giving away a huge awesome leather chair because her father died in it and her kids thought it was haunted

But yeah, I think you might have geoff'd up again :)

I hate typos. It's NOT going to matter that much. I had kinda forgotten about labor day, but I was also impatient to get furniture after waiting a couple weeks without anything to sit in except my computer chair in my apartment.
I did get a good deal on my dining table at least. Maybe not 50% off compared to what I've seen at other stores, but not bad.
