I'm kinda shocked this isn't getting more attention....

This highlights to me what will really be the most frightening part of the impending Obama win and a possible Democrat majority. If you remember your recent history then you'll remember what the far right wing of the republican party was like those last few years of the Clinton administration. Abortion bombings, Tim McVeigh and homegrown terrorists, militia groups, and a venomous hatred that gave rise to the Rush Limbaugh's and Bill O'Reilly types.
And most of that was at a point in time where the republicans DID control the Congress and a white guy was in the white house.
The crushing loss that it looks like the republican party is about to face is going to cause a major shake up in the party. You are either going to see a return to the center where TRUE republicans, the guys who really do want lower taxes for all and less government take back their party from the EXTREME CHRISTIAN right that has taken it over. Or you will see a party that has been toying with the politics of hate and division for the last 10 years or so go even further to the right and legitimize the extreme right of their party.
Sara Palin is our test model. If she becomes the defacto head of the republican party then we can see the extreme right blazing forward to try and win in 2012 with party leaders that don't think abortion bombers are terrorists. What effect do you think that will have on the VERY angry members of their party? What kind of message will they take from their leaders. One were violence is ok?
Or that side of the right will be pushed out of the party (we can only hope) and we will be left with a large group of armed and angry people who will doubtlessly feel that THEIR country has been "taken from them" by the "un-American" democrats and that they have been abandoned by the republican party.
What the far right wing of the party could do at that point is truly scary to me. At best we get the rise of 3rd party biased on their world view (one of hate, race, intolerance, and religion) At worst.... violence.
We are entering a new world here kids.... I hope one for the better. But we must not forget the lessons of the past and we MUST treat people who perform violence against Americans in the name of politics or religion like the terrorists that they are, no matter where they come from, who they are, or what they choose as their targets!
