You'll be amazed at how good getting a job and working hard at it can make you feel. Go for it, honey. I'll be here for you, cheering you on.

I really want a job because the monotony of school is starting to make me question my mental state. I need a change in my life, and I want that change to make a difference. That's why I'm disappointed that so few people seem to be encouraging me to get a job.

Why does Dad disapprove of the job? Unless there is some serious drawback (like, say, the expense of driving to and fro being more than it's worth), I agree with Sonya. Is there a real reason you think the job won't work out? I'm hoping for something positive for you every day ( ... )

I would have to go through hot-line training first, which takes seven weeks. He's hassling me about the potential job because I'm not sure if I'd be getting paid during that training. I think I would be for part of it, providing I get the job, because several of the participants in the last training session were already working while undergoing the training. He just doesn't understand when I explain that, though, and I guess he's concerned about me paying too much for commuting efforts and what not, but a;djfad;fl aaagh. It's frustrating and upsetting because I feel like he's telling me I shouldn't even try. It's stupid, but I really like my parents' approval, and it hurts when they don't seem to like my endeavors ( ... )

I know there's not much to be said and it's just a down period, but try not to let negativity take over completely. Absolutely no one in this world would be happy if you were not around.

I second this and couldn't find my own better words. Hang in there, Sarah. <3

I remember you mentioning the hot line training, but I didn't realize it would be so long. Augh. Wanting your parents' approval isn't stupid, and I completely understand. I'm still hoping that you will be offered the position and that the commute will not be a problem. LUCKLUCKLUCK ( ... )

I think you definitely need to go for the job, no matter what your parents think. I can understand wanting their approval, but at the same time, you have to focus on what you need sometimes, and it sounds like a) you need this and b) it could be a good opportunity.

I'm also applying to jobs right now, and I know it's tough -- you just have to keep applying til you find something. Maybe there are jobs at your school? Like work-study things, or even just regular student jobs.

I know we never speak, and I don't know what all is going on in your life right now, but you're in my thoughts. I'm sorry to hear that things are going so roughly. Good luck with the job.
