I feel a bit bad for Mako getting so much grief from the fandom. While I do think he deserves some of it, as he hasn't made the best choices; I think people forget that he really cares about the people he's close to and is terrified of losing them. He's always had to be the adult looking after his little brother in a world where it's a lot easier to get by if you do bad things than if you do the right thing. It must have been tough to draw a line in the sand and not cross it (or at least not let Bolin get involved).
