Well, I'm back. Been home since Saturday night. It's strange being back, and it's strange because I feel rather... disappointed, maybe, to be home.

I miss coming home from school to grins and high-fives. I miss having students. I miss feeling like I'm doing something, feeling like I'm part of something, I guess. I'm not through with my updates on ( Read more... )

I was pretty pleased with the address for my upcoming travel blog, kateinkenya.livejournal.com, until I just noticed that someone has ALREADY laid claim to the "kateinkenya" name, albeit on Wordpress.

Because I don't really need to see Avatar

I'm not big on computer animation, and I think 3D is pretty gimmicky, so I was never more than mildly interested in seeing James Cameron's Avatar. The blue elf-cat-aliens struck me as a bit fanfic-ish, but still managed to appeal to my videogamer love of cartoony, colourful things, but I'd intended to watch the movie as a guilty indulgence.

Creation of Hope in Kenya

Creation of Hope is Eric Walter's organization that provides aid to children, and their families and community, in Kikima, Kenya.

Tomorrow I'm going to a lunch hosted by Eric, to meet other people who contribute to the organization, and to meet with some of Eric's Kenyan contacts about setting some dates for my volunteer stay in Kikima.

This movie, I want to see. I'm really envious of people who went to TIFF; there were three screenings there. And? Shot on a handheld camera with people who were generally non-actors. I love that so much.

Coco avant Chanel - Preview

I saw the preview to this movie when my dad and I saw "The Cove" in Toronto. The fact that I'm posting the preview to share isn't a recommendation of the movie itself... simply a recommendation of the preview. Two reasons: First, the score is just brilliant! Mission: FanExpo 2009

I attended day 2 of the three day expo, and accomplished exactly 4 things. Which was all I'd hoped for.

Now that Zoe's gone from us, this photo really tugs at our heartstrings. It's bittersweet, but... Zoe was a damn good dog. If any pet deserves the comparison, it's her.
