"Randy, were you a Boy Scout at all?" Tara asked, watching him pack for another of his trips to Indiana, to go see his sister. She marveled at the way he seemed to be on top of everything.
"No." He laughed softly, not looking up from his luggage. "Yellow is a bad color on me. Why?"
"Because you always seem to be prepared."
"That's just habit." As he folded a few more shirts, he shrugged. "My brain is always working in a logical pattern. So I know exactly what I have to do and I just go through all the steps until it's done. Why I'm so good at organizing. Most people see a big task and freak out - I see a bunch of little steps in a generally perfect order."
She laughed softly. "Can I get you to organize my closet?"
"Yeah, sure. How's next weekend?" he said without a second's hesitation.
That made her smile. "I was joking, Randy, but it's nice to know you'd be willing to help."
"Of course I would." He stopped then and turned to her with a playful grin. "What are friends for if they're not willing to help you go through your two dozen pairs of shoes?"
"I don't own that many."
"Now that was me joking."
