After I first heard that he'd had a stroke, I figured that tough, salty dude would pull through and be okay...but...yeah. On to the really GOOD crabbin' spots, now.
I think that he was 53. Too young, in my estimation. Shows what putting yourself in a chronically stressful situation might do to a otherwise healthy and vital person.
It's really a great show and chronicles the life on a fishing boat in hostile Alaskan waters. I think that Phil was the most talented of all the boat captains. They're all great, and they'd have to be in that environment, but Phil was the most technically savvy. He was a pretty neat guy, too. His two sons are crew members on MV Cornelia Marie with him, and the bonds are strong between sons and father. It's just really sad.
