What does "zum Lachen in den Keller gehen" mean? I mean, I know what it literally means, but as a phrase?

I really have no clue, but I would guess it has to do with going to express your opinion somewhere else so either you dont hurt or offend people.

man sagt das über Menschen, die nie lachen und immer grummelig sind, weil jeder eigentlich ab und zu mal lacht...diese Menschen gehen dafür in den Keller, damit niemand sieht,dass sie manchmal auch gute Laune haben.
