I've long been bothered by the version of Evangelical Christianity (which I understand is not the only one) that holds that if you accept Jesus it's all good and if you don't accept Jesus it's all bad. I think the general idea isn't that God sends people to hell, but that people choose to live and die without God--that they place themselves outside of God's grace. Or, as CS Lewis said--'you cannot choose to leave the stage and if you try you are only volunteering to play the devil.'
Of course, the fact that most evangelical Christians seem to talk about God as if he were a spiteful pre-schooler doesn't really help their case.
