Well hi there!

Ok, I've been through some fairly major changes in the past month. We're classified as a remote site which means we have to travel with a survival pack, extra water, radios, satellite phone, logger/reporter thingie and an EPIRB. If the car breaks down, we press buttons, find somewhere shady and wait.

If you come over here I might see if I can sneak you in, going to take a while though, I want to be there a while before I start seeking permission to invite folks out there. You need permission to see anything other than one antenna near the main gate, just in case you had ambitions of driving past. :)

It's 4hrs from town - About 1hr on paved roads and 3 on gravel. Nearest town is 3hrs away. When they were building it, one truck driver needed to get his smokes - was an 8hr round trip for him.

Umm, small white ones? I don't know, I just know that if you leave some tasty wood on the ground and go to lunch, don't expect it to be there when you get back.

And we have 36 dishes, more are coming apparently.

could be Mastotermes darwiniensis perhaps. If you do see any interesting insects, spiders, scorpions etc about up there, could you perhaps get some photos? I'd love to expand the range of "things I Get To I.D."

Yeap, this is the ASKAP (Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder). 36 dishes at the moment, but only 6 have the collectors on them, they're still figuring out what works, but essentially we should be getting something like 25 more collectors in the next year or so, then the ones that miss out will be used for different projects. Then they want to add a bundle more dishes to it.

As far as I know, I can talk about it, because I haven't been told I can't and it's not very secret.
