My main computer's motherboard died! Suddenly, and without notice. It just turned off, when it had been idling for a while, then took me 20 minutes to restart, and it seemed to stay on over night, but it was frozen, with corrupted video on the morning. I haven't been able to get it to start since ( Read more... )

New Board wolphin5 May 9 2007, 04:28:21 UTC
Well, it looks like gigabyte won't even give me a response... so I'm going to have to get a new board *sigh* $200 more on my computer.

Hmm...

Did you first try replacing the power supply? If you've added any new hardware recently that pushes the limit of the PSU, you might be looking at needing a 450w-500w power supply.

If that fails, then I'd say yeah, Sys board. If your board is older than one year, it's likely out of warranty, unless you purchased additional insurance for longer warranty.

Trying to find the same model board again, could very well be a pain in the rear end to say the least. Then if you get a new motherboard, you could be looking at replacing the board, processor, memory, and video card just to make them all compatible with each other.

Yes, I tried with a different PSU, and I have a PSU Tester that passed the existing one, too. I was pulling ~250W at my UPS, and the PSU is rated for 560W. Don't tell me that isn't enough power to supply my system :P ( ... )

Yea, relacing the board is a pain, espcially rebuilding windows. I'm glad for nLite, so that I can slipstream my drivers into the disk, along with many of the drivers, I had 25 updates total to install!

Another Problem! wolphin5 May 11 2007, 03:49:33 UTC
I get home, go to bring my computer out of sleep, and it blue-screens, with corrupted graphics :'(

Restart, and the corruption stays :( :(

I just got the video card on April 13th! Now I'm *really* depressed. At least I know it's under warranty (FutureShop's PSP as well). I'll go into work (I work at FutureShop as a Tech), and see if I can do an over the counter exchange,as it's under a month.
