Maybe "Mental Floss" is the magazine they got the info from with the name of the article. This is really cool.

Entirely possible. I didn't even know "Mental Floss" was a magazine.
I love the fact that they cited lesser-known historical figures... well, lesser-known for those who don't delve into the "quirks" of the age.
