I pretty much dislike long lj surveys because they're usually pointless, repetitive, and grammatically incorrect. So I read them, but usually don't fill them out myself ( Read more... )

It's hard to really pin down that sort of thing. I have a lot of really nice people that I care for/care for me that have done things for me. But honestly the first thing I thought of was what Michael Gold said at Merchant Circle after handing me a note from him.

"..And Elizabeth Parlett is one of the nicest people you will ever meet."

I believe that was the exact phrasing, or at least very close.

I had tears in my eyes. It's not the kind of thing that a person just does every day, telling a bunch of people that sort of thing. It was kind of helped by the context of the situation (I believe it was Senior Circle, so I was in some kind of emotional state already), but it's really what I thought of first when I thought of something that someone has done for me. It means a lot coming from someone I wasn't just friends with, but looked up to and admired. I'd never had anyone like that say something like this about me in such a fashion.

I almost feel bad that one of the first things I thought of is so closely linked to Elizabeth's, but upon further consideration it makes perfect sense:

After the last show of Merchant, my very first senior circle, when I really did feel like that was an ultimate goodbye, completely unaware that I would see '07 many more times, I came offstage to see my parents before I went to cast party. I had postponed reading the program, so had no idea what people had written.

And my parents come up to me, and my dad grins at me, and says, "So, Joy, did you see what Michael wrote in the program?"

I read his, only his, because I had to in the moment, but kept the rest for later.

It was just, unbelievably, the sweetest thing anyone has said to me or about me, but also chillingly sad, and looking at it helps me get through things.

I have 2, although since one of them is a college thing that probably no one reading your journal will get, the first one's the important one:

1. senior year of high school when my car broke down in the quiznos lot during Comedy rehearsals - Alex and Nick drove back to the parking lot and sat with me in the car while i cried like a baby till my parents arrived

2. one of the other families in my fraternity adopting me when my big went awol

like you said, hope that makes somebody's week :)

During OTT when I hated everything and was really stressed out and unhappy, Sarah Salino just randomly baked me a cake and brought it to rehearsal. She's not even one of my best friends. It meant the world to me.

The fact that it was so surprising and so unprompted, in my opinion, makes it one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me.

Also, basically everything my mother has ever done for me.
