Okay, I was on a picnic with the family today near a river. My niece decides to go to the dock, and I follow. She stops at the foot of the dock and looks down, I catch up and look down as well, and see that she's looking at this snake less than two feet away from her that's rising up, looking like its about to strike. yeah, she's fine, didn't even realize she was in danger. Gonna have to talk to her about getting, "waaaay," far away from a snake next time she sees one.

I mean, even if its not a rattler, doesn't necessarily mean it isn't poisoness. Besides that, this snake was young enough that it didn't have a functioning rattler.

yeah, though in all honesty there is a chance that I mis-identified it. There's another snake in the area that is often mistaken for a rattler. Though, this thing looked more like the pictures of rattlers I saw so...

In any case, I talked to her, and told her not to get so close to snakes in the future. Apparently it hadn't occurred to her that it was dangerous, she just thought it looked neat.
