On the topic of intelligent design
More important than if intelligent design actually is true is realizing that if it is true it's moot since we CANNOT witness or evidence said creator (nor it's creation.) Witnessing this creator and getting effective testimony is the only way to prove ID and I doubt we're going to find the creator's docmentation (And no, the bible doesn't count) on how he created the universe.
Because we can only be witness to actual physical events we need to come up with an actual physical theory, which evolution is. Not that this is saying that evolution is right either, but that it's the best physical theory we've got.
As far as evolution not being provable, I think that's hogwash. We don't have conclusive evidence of it yet, but that doesn't mean it isn't out there. Eventually, with enough study, we will find the true causes of evolution and diversification, likely in genetic patterns and mechanisms.
