Does Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines get any better?

I've been playing it, with the unofficial patch (8.0.4) and after about two hours in, I'm trying to figure out if I'm going to continue. I spend a lot of time failing to open locked doors and having conversations that don't seem to make any difference. The creepy-ass hotel was pretty creepy, but other than that, I'm wandering aimlessly around the ( Read more... )

Once you get out of Santa Monica the pace picks up somewhat and you may find that things move along a bit better. I've actually never played it as a Brujah - I just personally don't like that clan. Malkavians are my favourite Bloodline clan to play (however I recommend playing the game through as something not batshit insane first, so you know what you're doing), closely followed by Tremere, Toreador and Ventrue.

The cut scene is not so bad. Though I will admit on my 5th plus playthrough I usually wander off and find something else to do for 10-15 minutes.

The whole game though is pretty much that... wandering through the city, triggering missions or resolving them as you go. If you're not liking it now, then you may not like it to proceed.

...and now I want to play it again. LOL!

It's a great game to play, and I'd stick with it. I agree with the other commenter, play through once as something other than Malkavian, or you'll wind up more confused. It's my favorite to play as well, though.

If you get really stuck, the walkthroughs on Gamefaqs for the game are actually pretty good. Not sure how you feel about using them, though. Some don't like any sort of help like that.

My first playthrough was Brujah too. :)

It does get better I promise. It's not OMG WOW but much better. You might want to look for a plot walkthrough so you don't miss anything. If I remember right it locks main points out pretty quickly.

I never played with the patch, but I've played through it a few times. It gets MUCH better.

I agree that Malkavian is a really fun clan to play, but there's so much weird stuff that happens that it can be hard to know what's really going on during your first play. I really liked Tremere (my first) and Nosferatu. Brujah was kind of meh for me, though some of my friends swear by them.

Finding quests gets more intuitive as you go on, though I had trouble at first as well. I ended up using a walkthrough on my later plays just to get all of the XP I possibly could.
