PSP Questions

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I've just recently (recently as in last night) become aware that Final Fantasy IV Complete exists and is available for the PSP. I don't own a PSP. I've been flirting with the idea of buying one for some time now, but I'm a little fuzzy about what I need to get started. I'm ok with buying a used or refurbished ( Read more... )

Yes, the PSP and the PSPvita both use memory cards. No, they do not use the same ones. Yes, the cheapest place I've found a psp-compatable memory card is at Radio Shack.

... Yes, if you like older games at all you will want multiple memory cards, because you can download a ton of games for the original Playstation onto your psp, including Final Fantasy 7, 8, and 9, lots of Resident Evil, Parasite Eve, Legend of Dragoon, etc. If you want Final Fantasy Crisis Core last I looked it wasn't a download.

Not the OP, but....I never realized you could download entire games for PS! Is that just Vita or will my silver PSP be able to as well? Part of me wants to load up before my trip next month.

you can do it straight from the PSP so long as you have a wireless connection. Or if you have a PS3, you can download to that, and transfer to your system. I have all the spyro games and FFVII on my PSP that way :)

To be completely honest, my psp game stock was MOSTLY downloaded. I could count on one hand the number of games I had the disks for.

I bought that system mostly for the chance to get old Playstation games that I had damaged the cds to past playability. ^^; The downloadable PSone games are not nearly as expensive as a new game is now, too, most under $20.

I traded mine in eventually, but only after getting my PSvita. And, bonus? The games I bought for download on my PSP had multiple downloads with the purchase, so they could go on my PSvita and my Playstation 3 (if I had one) with a single purchase.

FFIV isn't just on the PSP. While it's fine to get a PSP know that there won't be any new games for it, unless you get a VITA. However, FFIV is also available on the DS. If you snag a 3DS you'll definitely be getting more for your money as that's a handheld that's developing games and some of the best games are available for it and are coming to it by the end of the year.

If you have an Android phone/tablet or an iPhone/iPad it's also available in their respective app stores.

Actually Sweet Fuse is being released next month. Some localization publishers like Aksys still release PSP titles, though they're few and far between these days.

I think you're able to get FFIV Complete from PSN as a download for the Vita though.

The PSP is a great system if you like JRPGs. They aren't making any new for it like someone above me said but you can still download a lot of PS1 favorites to it. You do need a memory card, and new systems come with one, or you can buy one rather cheaply from newegg or other electronic stores that sell cameras etc. I have a Kingdom Hearts PSP that has UMD capabilities. Do NOT GET THE GO IF YOU WANT TO PLAY UMD, PSP GO is download only. If you have a PS3, you can connect them together and use it as aux (rearview mirror in a racing game for example). Its also great because if you like those JRPGs and otome games, you can import them and they'll play on an american system (My roommate plays otome games and that's how I know that), you shouldn't have to pay more than 130 for a NEW system and probably less than 100 for a used one. Used ones don't usually come with a memory card though.

PSP is awesome! I mostly use mine for Disgaea but I have quite a few UMDs and downloaded games. It's JRPG, SRPG and retro arcade game heaven. Its amazing how much stuff is downloadable on PSN, including PS1 games.

Unfortunately I need to buy me a new PSP too as mine is one of the first ones and has seen a lot of use and the battery won't charge anymore. I'll porb just go to GameStop
