Oh. Well either that was not actually Ares, or else his death was a ruse, because I can assure you Lord Ares is very much alive and living in Manhattan. I probably shouldn't be telling you any of this either, but I think that sometimes the exchange of information is so beneficial that you have to set other rules aside. Or at least, I believe my mother would think so. I'm assuming you wouldn't share anything I'm telling you with these System Lords. I'm not in the habit of sharing my own conversations with anyone besides my boyfriend, but I'll even keep this private from him also since he usually doesn't think before opening his mouth. Still, this sounds like information that could one day be vital, and it wouldn't be good to be caught someplace where you need this information to survive and to not have it, so I'm grateful that you're sharing this with me ( ... )

Only System lord I'm on even remote speaking terms is Ba'al. And he usually gets my fist in his face before he can finish his thought. Nothing will be shared with a System Lord by me. You have my word.

The history is a bit sketchy, but I'd say it's a little bit of both. Well, a lot of both. Doctor Jackson is really better to explain it; he's the history nerd. I'm a tech nerd. :)

If your Gods are actually aliens, I have to say that they're doing an excellent job of keeping a low-profile, what with all the actvity we've had in our own Solar System over the years.

Also, philosophy is Daniel's forte, as well.

The gods use something called The Mist to cover the perceptions of mortals. Mortals come up with all sorts of silly explanations for things that are the doings of the gods. But also, they haven't get that low of a profile, really. You just think you know better than to believe in them. After all, when I speak about the gods-- about Lord Ares or Lord Zeus or my mother Athena, you know exactly who I mean, don't you? You spoke of a Colonel, didn't you? The Colonel rank in the U.S. has as its symbol an eagle, right? That's the sacred animal of Zeus, and that's not a coincidence. So really, your friend the Colonel is honoring Zeus right on his clothes even if he doesn't believe in Zeus. There is such a thing as hiding in plain sight.

I never really thought about it like that. But what I meant by low-profile was that while we were defending the planet from attack, it was just us. We didn't have any outside help, mysterious or otherwise.

Oh yeah, that's likely. Our own gods are usually too busy fighting each other to be much help to the planet. Just look at how Poseidon devastated all of Manhattan simply because he was angry at his sister! If you had to protect us from aliens, I'm glad you were there! I've been busy trying to protect us from our own gods. Which sort of brings us full circle because I'm still afraid that this Kione is up to something.

Not sure what help we can offer. But don't hesitate to call, if you need help.
