I have to write a daily journal that reflects on my western humanities class. I will type this up as often as I can here. Not only for posterity, but just for future reflection I think.
First class of the semester we talked about a broad range of things. From the creation of the universe to what really motivates humans as a species.
You touched on four things that motivate or define humans. The first one was "Making a living." Which I agree with you on. People are always seeking and striving to survive.
The second one you listed was curiosity. Again, I agree with you. Curiosity is a huge part of human being's nature and it is the reason we learn so well and are able to adapt to our environment and situation.
You also talked about religion and how it's a good thing because it inspires hope and hope is the only thing that keeps us from killing our selves. That's flat out wrong. People need to learn to take responsibility for them selves. No, there is no God. Yes, you are alone in a hostile universe. All hope is a lie. Deal. If you truly accept these things you don't fall into a depression that leads to slitting your wrists. You take responsibility and you fucking take action.
The final topic was art. I have little to no experience with art. I guess all beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I do enjoy almost all forms of self expression so I guess that all I can really say.
Most of that is hyprocritical crap that I just spew. Anyways. Bought books today and getting my new sexay volvo tomorrow. Woot.
