I'm strongly considering transferring to Emerson for writing and publishing. I was planning on staying here and changing my major to English, but I'm thinking about taking out bigger loans and getting a degree that will give me more opportunities instead, not to mention put me in a place where I'll feel more mentally sound. Never thought I was a ( Read more... )

hey, i have no idea who you are, and i'm sorry if you find this really weird, but i just found your livejournal through www.wefeelfine.org, and it's so ironic that it brought me to your journal for so many reasons.

i find it mostly ironic because Emerson is also my top choice college, and i just applied there and got accepted into the writing, literature, and publishing program. this might mean nothing coming from a stranger, but i say transfer. maybe it's just coincidence that i found your journal, but maybe it was fate and i feel like after reading what you wrote i should encourage you to do it. haha again, sorry if this is weird, but if you go to wefeelfine.org and you open it, and you see all of the million little other bubbles that i could have clicked on, you'll understand why i think it's so crazy that i ended up reading yours and why i feel the need to leave a comment.

so anyway, enjoy your day, and even just from reading this entry i think you are a talented writer.

I'm almost positive that students at every college are stuck in childhood. Except maybe community colleges... and I think maybe the more expensive/prestigious the college, the less students grow up there. I think it's wonderful; I don't want to grow up. But I don't think transferring to another school will raise the maturity level.

Ah yes, but you go to Brandeis, and I go to Umass. I'm not being stuffy, but this just isn't the right environment for me, and it has just as much to do with the faulty public higher education system as it does with my peers being borderline alcoholics of the yah-dude variety.

There's a lot more that factors into it than "maturity level", and the kind of growing up I want to do doesn't include losing my sense of wonder or playfulness.

Mmm, it's possible that we meant different things by growing up. But I still don't think my friends at Brandeis have any concept of what it's like to live in the real world.

reality will never be something sound until we get kicked in the head a few times and maybe lose an eye or two. in the wake of such wounds there will always be cells in motion just begging to maintain the subtle loving of the current position. thus the cells of even ourselves, but more importantly the ones we take for granted in the realm of education is only causing more friction with the question of incarceration and for what cost is it to just breath yet there are bars at every age level; the umbrella's skeleton preventing hairy icicles to form. love, i think you should do whatever it is that you want to do. and i know what you mean by "growing up" and while you've found some amazing friends at UMass (much like i did), it might be time for a new adventure..one that leads you to where you want to go. good luck and i love you!!!
