15th Trauma

[Satori has had her arm back for some time now, but today something has occurred to her.

And what better way to share her macabre thoughts than over the entire phone network!]This is the second time I've seen my arm since I lost it. At least it's properly attached to me this time. Though I have to wonder if it's even my own arm...the one Koishi ( Read more... )

!regain, !phone, trolling mayfield, what a ball of sunshine, i can has arm, !ic, what is this post

You could probably perform a DNA test. It doesn't require an unimaginable amount of effort.

A what?

Take a small sample of the cells from each of your arms and perform a polymerase chain reaction test on them. If the resulting spectrum matches, it is your arm. It's feasible, I think, to construct an apparatus for that, given the knowledge we have; the materials might be difficult.

I'll...consider that.

[She has no idea what you just said. Herp.]

It would be an interesting science project.

Ah... do you understand the process?

No. The technology where I come from is...in a state of flux at the moment, and I haven't heard anything about "DNA tests."

["In a state of flux"? Seemed to mean "poor."]

Well, DNA is the molecule which carries genetic information in humans. Therefore, humans can be identified with almost certainty by their DNA, which is reproduced in all human cells. There are tests that can be performed that would be able to perform this identification.

[Aside from the whole nuclear fusion stuff, yeah....]

Ah. Then there's a problem right from the start. You see, I'm not human.

[Shrugs.]

I thought everyone in Mayfield was placed into a human body. Furthermore, most complex organisms from Earth still have this basic building block as a genetic carrier.

They are, but that's only temporary...though I guess I do rather look like a human, when you ignore the extra eye.

[Rather blase:]

Well, what are you, then, if I may? If you're related to humans, or even to any Earthly organisms, there's a chance it would work.

[Bluntly.]

I am a satori. A youkai with three eyes, and capable of reading minds.

[She pauses.]

Well, it couldn't hurt to give it a shot. To be honest, it would be a matter of curiosity as to whether you even had DNA or not.

You have the capability of reading minds even here?

Reply

wondering_eye March 12 2011, 22:33:10 UTC
Oh, yes, I got that ability back fairly quickly.

...Though, I guess "ability" is the wrong word. Reading the minds of others is what my third eye does. It looks into people instead of looking at them.

I see, that's interesting. How does it operate, then? Do you just target it at whatever you please? If it looks into people, what do you see when you use it to examine things? Does it work when someone's behind a wall, say?
