A friend of mine recently lent me a few books. Among them was a trilogy called "The Lord of the Rings." I've only read the first two books so far, but...I'm enjoying them. They raise a lot of interesting questions about morality and power ( Read more... )

I believe, personally, that humans have the capacity for all of those things. We were given a free will and with that comes the ability to do great evil or, in turn, make something good of our lives and others'.

Well, from my personal experience they are rather easy to use. Even if what you're telling them to do goes against their personal morals they are apt to do it anyway as long as you ask correctly.

I do not know. Humans have their societies set up that dictate rules for proper conduct so morals become meaningless for the everyday human.

And as long as they follow those rules, even if their own morals don't agree with them, they're more or less considered "good people."

You're not the first person who's said that, and honestly, I'm inclined to agree. Though humans generally have the same kind of thoughts...there's something, even if it's almost insignificant, that makes each of them very different from one another. That's something I've learned during my time here.
