How to go from

to

(plus two alternates)

in PSP XI

+no selective color
+uses color layers, channel mixer, and color balance
+seven steps, one optional

Alternate colorings:
and

Find how to do these at the bottom.

1. Crop your picture to 100x100 pixels. I used this image from stock.xchng.

2. Add a new raster layer (layers > new raster layer) and fill it with #fffa6d. Set the layer to soft light 86%.

3. Add a new channel mixer layer. (layers > new adjustment layer > channel mixer) Use the following settings:

Red 125, -30, 0, 0
Green -15, 115, 11, 0
Blue -58, 130, 40, 0

4. Add a new color balance layer. (layers > new adjustment layer > color balance) Use the following settings:

Midtones 0, 15, -10
Shadows 0, 0, 30

5. Add a new color balance layer. (layers > new adjustment layer > color balance) Use the following settings:

Midtones 21, 0, 32

Set this layer to color.

6. If your picture looks too washed out, you may want to add a new hue/saturation layer. (layers > new adjustment layer > hue/saturation/lightness)

saturation +14

but some pictures don't need it so this step is optional. Play around with it.

7. Then I added a texture by latexandleather and altered by me. I set this to screen 100%.

And you're done!

Here are the alternate colorings:

To get this coloring, just delete the second color balance layer.

To get this coloring, simply replace the yellow color on the first raster layer with #ffebeb.
