Note: first posted on AFF,

He was still trying to catch his breath when a bunch of cameras with pink blinking lights attacked him backstage. He just finished his stage on Inkigayo and was still feeling the adrenaline coursing through his veins. Despite being an idol for almost three years, he still felt this certain nervousness and intense anticipation every single time he goes up the stage.

A box with hearts and lace was handed to him by one of the staff. He knew what he had to do. He went through this scene with Jongdae, his manager, and Jongin, his model best friend, more than ten times. It was a given fact that Baekhyun is a very bad actor. He is a naturally bubbly person, so you’d expect him to be at least decent with his expressions, but no, acting isn’t really for him. He once shot a break-up scene for his music video, and well, go figure. The director gave up on the thirtieth take, just made use of what they had, and left all the work to the video editors.

He tried to put on his best shocked expression, hoping it wouldn’t be too obviously scripted. He carefully opened the opened the box and read the contents of the card inside.

Baekhyun,

Congratulations! You are now officially half of the newest We Got Married couple!

You will meet your husband at the end of this day, but for now, you will be communicating with him through this cellphone. Just wait for the WGM chat for your tasks!

Good luck and have fun!

Yes, husband, Byun Baekhyun is getting a husband. Baekhyun hadn’t planned on telling the whole world he preferred being with persons of the same gender, but Oh Sehun, one of his dongsaengs, is a little brat. They were guesting in a variety show when Sehun slipped and told the world that his Baekhyun hyung will never fall for a girl. They covered it up then by joking about it, but it was too obvious. True, Baekhyun had been rumored to be dating a member of girl group, but the rumors were proven to be false. The public slowly put the pieces together, and no confirmation was needed. Everyone knew he was gay. It wasn’t as if he was the first idol to be outted. There were a couple before him, and they were also part of WGM as the first male couple.

After giving the camera his signature eye smile, Baekhyun took out the phone from the box and inspected its features. He noticed that the phone’s case was for couples. It was white with half a heart in the middle, and he assumed that his husband’s case was the other half. Baekhyun couldn’t help but snort at this, which he tried to cover up with a giggle.

The phone beeped, signaling the first task he was to do before he would meet his husband.

Go to studio 3, there you will find your first task. Good luck!

Baekhyun pocketed the phone and walked to the studio. There was a sickening feeling in his gut, and he just knew something was going to go wrong. But he decided to think positively. Sure, there weren’t a lot of celebrities that were gay, but a lot of them were bisexual. Making it difficult for Baekhyun to narrow down the list of his possible husbands. Although he didn’t really want to join the show, he had no choice and he now has to live with it.

When he arrived at the studio, he was greeted by his dongsaengs, Huang Zitao and Oh Sehun. The two were a rap/dance duo who recently debuted and promoted in China the past month. Baekhyun was particularly close with the two because even before he debuted, the two were always there to keep him company. And even after debuting, the two kept  him company since he was a solo artist and didn’t have a group to bond with.

“Hyung! We’ve been waiting for you!” the older of the two, Zitao or Tao, said while pouting at his hyung.

Baekhyun laughed at how childish the two can get, remembering that they were barely adults and can’t even manage without supervision, “Tao-yah, stop pouting! Really, it doesn’t suit you.”

Sehun snickered at his hyung’s comment and laughed at Tao’s expense, “Baek hyung! They told us to give you this.”

Baekhyun was presented a sketch pad and colored pencils. He looked around and noticed that the studio was set for an interview. There were two sofas in the middle of the stage with a table in between. The lights were already set, and the camera crew were ready.

“Surprise! We’re going to interview you about your ideal guy!” the two chorused, obviously beaming with excitement, with Sehun’s eyes particularly gleaming with mischief.

He groaned inwardly, knowing that the Sehun can reveal a lot things about him that he’d rather not share with the public. But with the cameras rolling, all he could do was let the two drag him towards the stage.

“So hyung, for starters, how did you find out you like boys?” Tao asked, feigning a reporter’s voice while trying to act serious, Sehun giggling beside him.

Baekhyun knew he was going to be asked this question. He had answered this a couple of times before during interviews, but he had never really answered it truthfully.

“I didn’t know until I was 16 or 17, yeah. There was a particular boy who made me realize that I don’t actually like girls.” He explained, with shy smile playing on his lips.

The two nodded and were trying to hide the wide grins on their faces. Baekhyun had told them about this guy before, but he never told them who it was. Only Jongdae and Jongin know, and they even had to coax it out of him through a lot of alcohol.

It was Sehun’s turn to ask, flipping through the cards in his hands, he settled with one and asked, “Okay, now hyung, tell us how did you find out that you actually like this guy?”

Baekhyun blushed furiously, of course he knew this question would be asked. He was given a copy of the possible questions beforehand, but remembering and going back to the past really wasn’t his thing, not at all.

“Uh, well I just kind of knew? I mean I felt it, and it just felt right, I guess?”

Sehun gave his hyung a knowing smile before nudging Tao to continue the so-called interview.

“Wow, I never knew hyung could be this much of a romantic!” Tao mused, teasing Baekhyun.

Baekhyun hit Tao’s shoulder lightly, reminding himself to revoke Tao’s apartment visiting privileges to for a week. And he might just include Sehun if-

“Yeah, well you see, hyung’s not much of a romantic person. We would like to thank the staff for giving him this opportunity, if not, he’d probably end up single until he’s like 40.” Sehun added to the teasing.

Yup, Sehun is losing his privileges too, Baekhyun thought.

“You two aren’t going to stop, are you?” Baekhyun said with a voice that sounded sweet and teasing, but his eyes were like daggers try to pierce through Sehun and Tao.

The two looked a bit nervous; they knew their hyung was tolerant, but he had his limits. Sehun cleared his throat and continued, “Anyway, hyung, you must be wondering about the sketch pad and the pencils, right?”

Baekhyun nodded lightly, although he knew what he had to do already.

“Hyung, please draw your ideal guy for us.”

He took the black pencil and started drawing the outline of his so-called ideal guy. Of course there’s already someone that comes to mind, but he refuses to draw him. So instead he draws the exact opposite.

Sehun and Tao told him that they weren’t supposed to see the drawing, so he closed the sketch book and placed it on his lap. The phone in his pocket beeped again; he took it out and read the message out loud for the camera and Sehun and Tao’s sake.

“You will be given 5 minutes to chat with your husband. You are not allowed to ask his name, ideal guy, and questions that will directly lead to his identity. Wait for the ping for the start of the chat. Have fun!”

Sehun and Tao started giggling beside him. Sehun started poking his hyung and said, “Hyung! You should ask him if he’s dated before!”

“Yeah, then ask him if he likes pie, because don’t you hate it?” Tao added.

Baekhyun tried his best to zone out the noise coming from his annoying dongsaengs, when the ping came.

He was still waiting for a reply from his husband when the chat box closed; the five minutes were apparently over. He felt like held his breath the whole time, because his head suddenly felt a lot lighter.

“Hyung, were you even listening?” Sehun said, pouting because his hyung wasn’t listening to him.

Baekhyun apologized to appease his brat for a friend. His heart was beating fast, and he doesn’t know why. There was something exhilarating about talking to someone without knowing their identity. It felt an awful lot familiar, some sort of de javu, but he pushed the feeling away, knowing better than to dwell on something from the past.

Sehun was actually telling Baekhyun that he and Tao were already leaving him and were heading out. Sehun was even told him to tell them immediately who he was married to. Baekhyun just nodded, still seemingly caught in a daze.

The phone pinged again, and another app was launched. It was a fashion app that helped its users to pick outfits for specific events.

Your final task is to go through the app and chose an outfit for your husband for the events written on the card to be given to you.

One of the staff hands Baekhyun a card with 4 items.

  1. Movie date
  2. Stroll at the beach
  3. Fancy and formal dinner date
  4. Bowling date

Baekhyun scrolled through the app and started picking clothes for his husband. He felt really giddy and excited, because this is what he usually does to his friends. He almost always chooses outfits for Jongdae and Jongin, so he was really excited to do it for someone he’s supposed to act in love with.

He remembered his husband saying that he likes snapbacks, so he chose three different kinds, one for each dates, excluding the formal one. He choose a pair of jeans, a band shirt, a hoodie, and a pair of sneakers for the movie date. Then he choose a pair of shorts, a collared shirt and boat shoes for the beach date. He then choose an all-black ensemble - black suit, black polo, and a black skinny tie paired with black dress shoes. He choose an outfit similar to the movie date’s for the bowling date.

Baekhyun finished all these in less than 15 minutes, going through the outfits once more before sending it and closing the app.

Another message pinged, and this time directions to a nearby hotel was given.

He walked out of the studios and a sleek BMW was waiting for him.

His eyes grew wide at the sight, and a noona from the staff handed him the keys to the car. His jaw dropped and his eyes were bigger than saucers. He owns an old trust van, and when he’s not tired, he drives around in his small car. But he has never driven a car as luxurious as the one in front of him.

“I’m going to drive this? Noona? Really?” he mumbled to the noona who gave him the keys.

The noona just nodded and pushed him to the car. He revved the engine, and adrenaline almost immediately coursed through his veins. He felt the same kind of energy when he’s performing, and even more when he stepped on the gas.

He arrived at the hotel in no time, and he was directed to a suite. He was immediately greeted by his make-up artist, Luhan, and his manager, Jongdae.

“Lu! Dae! Gosh, why are you guys here?” Baekhyun excitedly asked, enveloping the two in a tight hug.

Luhan, who was the first to wiggle himself out of the hug, said, “Well, they asked me to do your make-up and fix you up for your date.”

“What? What kind of date am I going to?” Baekhyun exasperatedly asked.

It was just too much. He watched a couple of first meetings in the show, and there weren’t as complicated as this.

Jongdae just laughed and patted his back, “Don’t worry Baek, just enjoy!”

Luhan sat him down in front of the vanity table and removed the make-up that was still on his face. He reapplied some foundation and put on lighter make-up on Baekhyun, just enough to cover-up the blemishes on his face. And the last touch was Baekhyun’s signature eyeliner.

When the make-up was done, Luhan bid him and Jongdae good bye. Another noona approached him and gave him a dress bag. He removed the covering and a white suit was revealed. There was a note attached to the hanger.

This suit was personally chosen by your husband, wear it and proceed to the rooftop.

Jongdae inspected the suit, nodding with smirk plastered on his face, “Your husband has good taste…”

Baekhyun agreed. He would’ve chosen something similar to the suit chosen by his husband. It was his style even.

Jongdae noticed that Baekhyun wasn’t moving yet, so he pushed his best friend and client, towards the bathroom, “Hurry up and change! I’ll go ahead, okay?”

Baekhyun just nodded and changed into the suit. He looked at himself at the mirror, admiring how the suit fit and suited him well. He went out of the bathroom, smiled at the camera once, and headed for the rooftop.

The walk to the rooftop was excruciatingly long if you’d ask Baekhyun. Time seemed a lot slower, and his steps were a lot heavier. Baekhyun wasn’t a romantic; he used to be one. But something changed all of that. He never thought he’d actually feel nervous in meeting someone again. He never imagined himself being (acting) in love, in national television even. And wow, he never expected that he’d be calling someone his husband at the age of 22. And wow, he’s been referring to this guy as his husband for a while now. He really needs to look over his life decisions right now.

He didn’t realize the elevator had already reached the top floor, not until the camera man and staff noona nudged him to the direction he was supposed to go to.

The only thing separating him now from the guy he’s supposed to call his husband is a glass door. He doesn’t know how long he stares at the handle, feeling the cold metal on the crooks of his palm. He took a deep breath, mustered up some courage, and pushed the door open.

What welcomed him was the starry night sky, a beautiful candle-lit dinner, and the back of the uy who was now his husband. The place looked amazing. The flower arrangements were divine, not only were there candles, but there were fairy lights that were hanged all over the rooftop.

In short, the place was breathtaking. But Baekhyun’s breath was completely taken away when the boy standing by the table turned around and faced him.

Park Chanyeol. It was Park Chanyeol.

Baekhyun stopped breathing for the longest time; he stopped breathing until he felt light headed. Chanyeol looked at him and gave him a sincere smile. A kind of smile that Baekhyun hasn’t seen from a stranger for a while. It looked so genuine, Baekhyun would be fooled if he hadn’t known that Chanyeol was an actor.

“Wow, hi. I’m Chanyeol.” He said as he approached Baekhyun. Baekhyun was frozen and stuck to his spot.

He barely got to croak his name and a hello to Chanyeol. Chanyeol… Park Chanyeol. He pulled the chair for Baekhyun, all gentlemanly, and sat across him. Baekhyun stared and searched his eyes from any form of recognition. But there wasn’t any. And Baekhyun felt a sickening feeling in his stomach. Of all the people in the industry, it just had to be him. And apparently he doesn’t remember Baekhyun at all.

“Hi, uh, wow I really like your music. I’m a really huge fan!” Chanyeol blurted out, a slight blush creeping on his cheeks.

Baekhyun didn’t know what to say, so he just smiled.

“The suit you chose is really nice, I really loved it.” Chanyeol said to break the ice.

Baekhyun was still at a loss for words, so he just smiled and said, “The one you chose was nice too.”

Chanyeol was fidgeting in his seat and was clutching a sketch pad similar to the one Baekhyun had. One noona was signalling for them to take out their sketch pads, and Chanyeol, despite looking nervous, made the first move.

"They asked you to draw your ideal guy too?" He asked, trying to make the conversation feel more natural.

Baekhyun nodded and placed the sketch pad on the table. He drew a guy who was almost at tall as he is. He colored him light brown, and he said he needed to be a good dance. Chanyeol just nodded at Baekhyun's noting that he wasn't anything like the guy.

Chanyeol  already opened his and was just hiding the drawing from Baekhyun. The smile on his face looked like a mix of embarrassment and shyness.

"Um, it scarily looks too much like you. Oh god, I'm so freaked out right now."

He slowly turned the sketch towards Baekhyun, and wow, it really did look like him, he thought. The drawing was a cute chibi. The guy had black hair and cute eyes (eyeliner included). The guy also was shorter than Chanyeol and had to be petite. And the guy in the drawing was singing, and Baekhyun just so happened to be an idol.

"So I'm your ideal type?" Baekhyun almost inaudibly said.

Chanyeol didn't answer, but the deep crimson on his was more than enough.

For the rest of the night, Chanyeol kept talking and making up for what Baekhyun lacked in the conversation.

“You know, I really think we would get along! You seem really nice and super charming!” Chanyeol blurted out, blushing yet again at his sudden confession.

Baekhyun felt like his head was going to explode at any moment. How could Chanyeol forget? Did he really forget? Or was he too good of an actor and was just pretending? This was to much for him.

“Do you want to dance?” Chanyeol suddenly asks, catching Baekhyun off-guard.

He could see the noonas in the background trying to hold back their excitement. This wasn’t planned, and they were anticipating something exciting, but Baekhyun was hesistant. He was not exactly sure what to say. He couldn’t reject him, that would be off-character. “What? Isn’t it too-“

But before he could say anything, the music had already started playing, and Chanyeol had already offered his hand. So he had no choice but to take it. The song playing was one of his, Into Your World, the only song he wrote that had gotten its way to his album. He can already feel this becoming a high rating episode, with skinship at the first episode. But his thoughts had drifted away, and he becomes a puddle of emotions. They weren’t positioned too closely to each other. They were at a respectable distance, but Baekhyun could still smell his perfume. And he was still close enough to hear Chanyeol’s heart beating and humming to the song.

God, it feels too familiar, Baekhyun thought to himself.

He knew they had enough material for about two episodes, so he ended the dinner after the dance, “Thank you for tonight…”

“No, thank you… jagiya?”

Baekhyun almost choked, “Jagiya?!”

“I thought I should give you a pet name, don’t worry though, you don’t have to use it if you aren’t comfortable.” Chanyeol replied, giving him a boyish smile in the process.

Baekhyun just nodded, “Bye, Chanyeol.”

“Bye, jagiya!”

The cameras stop rolling, and staff start cheering and clapping. The director and the entire staff congratulated the two for a job well done, particularly Chanyeol. Baekhyun was about to take-off and leave when Chanyeol stopped him.

“Um, Baekhyun! Hi, I’m really sorry. You seemed really shocked, but I just felt really comfortable with you. I’m sorry if I seemed too forward, but I’m looking forward to doing this with you.”

Chanyeol flashed him one of his toothy grins, but Baekhyun just felt like crying.

A nod was all he could manage was nod.

He really doesn’t remember, Baekhyun thought as the hurt slowly turned into anger.
