But you know that if you cross your fingers, and if you count from one to ten...

I'm reading Treasure Island today, since I'm working on Stevenson but have only read one novel and a few short stories of his. I'm also reading Graham Balfour's Life of Stevenson, which is surprisingly enjoyable so far. At the moment, my angle looks like it's going to be to examine why books like Stevenson's, though ostensibly childish, were far ( Read more... )

On sunday, we saw Simon Amstell doing stand-up, which was very good - probably better than I expected actually. He has a knack of being offensive whilst making it abundantly clear that he doesn't mean half the things he actually says, and thus not coming over as a complete twat. Which, I suppose, is why he presents Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

I saw the same show the Sunday before you. I absolutely adored it (and not just because I want to get into his pants). Know what you mean about the offensiveness (two people left during the interval), and I liked the cheeky pisstake wink he did whenever he was "pretending" to be ironic (if he did that when you were there). Somehow he manages to get away with the accusations he levels at various other comics (even the one about Justin Lee Collins... again, if he did that when you were there).

xx

He had a joke at Russell Brand's expense - in the interval, I noticed that said Mr Brand was sitting some rows in front of us. He didn't leave, so I assume he took it in the spirit it was intended

It was nice to see people again (any people)

Oh, how you flatter us, stop, I'm blushing.

Good to see you too though! Do let me know if you get your musical off the ground, we don't have enough stuff about musicals on 4Talent.

Sorry- seeing anyone is great at the moment, since I don't get out much usually. Seeing three such charming specimens of humanity was simply a nice bonus:)

Hmmm... is there any kind of thing I could do to rectify the dearth of musicals-related material at 4talent?

I don't know - what's the happening thing in musicals at the moment? What's the angle? I'm def up for trying to work something out, it's a neglected art form! Of course 4Talent is in love with broadcast platform angles on things so if it turns out someone is, I dunno, filming a musical in ten 4 minute sections you can download to your mobile, or something, that would be ideal.

Well, I don't think anyone is. Although they definitely should!

I'm going to have a think about this one. It is a neglected artform. Avenue Q shows that. As I said a musical written for an early twenty-something audience (much less one not based on a previously known element) simply shouldn't work. But it has.

Dewi. When will you come to the North of England?

Beyond 'before Christmas' I'm not really sure. But soon, definitely. I was thinking you and I could perhaps arrange to be at Het's at the same time?

Seems wise. You give me a choice of dates to choose from and we'll go for it.

Dewi's mentioning of Christmas reminds me that we must have another Team North Xmas Xtranvaganza again. We should set a date. I propose Saturday 22nd December.

Which is nearly 2 months away but you need to advance plan around the festive period. So get your xmas t-shirt in the wash, Rob.
