Aw, Hellcats! I can't believe you ended this way!
Your season finale was all set-up, no resolution, and you got canceled. Harsh. We didn't even get to see Nasty Kathy get hers, even though, after being furious with her at first, I later came around to seeing things more from her point of view and stopped wishing the team would push her off something. Still. Nasty, Kathy.
We did get to see Savannah being awesome, and Marti being awesome, and Alice being super awesome and Lewis being awesome and Dan being there I guess. I kid, I kid, I like Dan just fine, but damn, Hellcats, you guys rocked it, and I'm not just saying this because I have a weakness for all choreographed dance performance-type things. You came in, you got us to take these characters seriously, you made a lot of relationships feel real and rich and gave almost everyone a chance to interact awesomely, and there was actually plot for a while there, which was great, and you had a student/teacher-but-not-her-teacher relationship work with people being mature and honest and recognizing what was important, and I loved you. I am not ashamed to say you successfully made me cry on more than one occasion. I am sad to see you go. I hope Aly Michalka gets another job soon, hopefully being just as femslashy with everyone as she was here.
I am almost caught up on Happy Endings. It's no Perfect Couples or anything, my personal favorite of the friends-hang-out shows from this season (CANCELED), but it is a sweet little thing and I'm
enjoying it very much. It's airing HILARIOUSLY out of order, though. Why did they not air these latest episodes as the second and third, as they were clearly meant to be aired? They're pretty funny, really, and got at least one laugh from Elisha Cuthbert, which is more than can be said from all other episodes combined. The people playing Penny, Jane, Max and Brad are fantastic, but Elisha Cuthbert is so so so bland, it looks like she's in a different show altogether. She is very pretty, it's true, but that's not enough to do a sitcom. But while Elisha Cuthbert seems miscast, the guy who plays Dave is just bad. Could they just drop Dave and Alex? Or recast them? That's my vote.
My favorite detail, though? Alex' shop is named Xela, which is her name spelled backwards. That is unexpectedly good character work, because that is exactly the kind of originality I'd expect from her. Awesome.
