Sorry for the long periods of silence - the internet is a few steps down the pecking order in terms of priorities these days but that doesn't mean that I'm not thinking of you all and wishing you a healthy, happy and successful 2016

Good evening! The next onslaught of guests arrives at 7.30 and some will be staying for the weekend which means that the PC will be pretty much out of reach (and I shall be doing mass catering in the kitchen in a way which will remind me of your niece and the galley experience on the tall ship!).
Yes, the intricacy of the icing is extraordinary (done with cocktail sticks, the sot in me likes to think!): my mother has this theory that they are all Aardman shaun the sheep modellers on vacation.
Thank you for your faithful year of lovely posts of monks, and Max, and magnificent landscapes, churchscapes and adventuresc(r)apes. I would wish you mud in your eye but I expect you've too much of the stuff down there already.
May 2016 bring you a pageant of new and good things on four legs, two legs, tripod and otherwise!
Good to see you! Thank you for your New Year wishes. I'm glad you like the tree and cakes.
The cake shop is quite a local landmark, though I'd always assumed that the cakes looked good but were inedible(-ish). However, some friends got married recently and had a "wedding" cake made by that cake shop to look like a library book with a pen on top - and it tasted OK with a decent fruit cake inside.
I hope that 2016 continues to bring you interest in writing and new ideas and in life generally.
Your tree is beautiful, as always. I imagine the room seems a little bit emptier for a day or two after all has been packed away. But there's next year to look forward to.
Someone above called the cakes works of art. So true! The fine detail on the buildings is amazing.
The Christmas tree is always a beacon of brightness and special interest in the winter which is, as you know, not the season for me! You are right in saying that the room looks bare without the tree but, somehow, the absence adds to the enjoyment of the memories of Christmas rather than anything else - inexplicable but nice!
Yes, the "works of art" are amazing. I always look forward to seeing what new marvels are in the cake shop window!
Thank you, K! (that is such a cool icon) Hope 2016 will be good for you and Sandie and that the winter won't be too long or hard - it's weirdly mild here but very wet.
Happy new year!!! That's a pretty tree you have there, the cakes look nice as well. The gardener's cake looks like it's made of play dough (but it looks tasty like the others).
How was all the festivities? I bet there are loads of food and drinks
Thank you for your greeting, CR! (I love the icon) Sadly, yesterday was Twelfth Night (the traditional deadline for removing Christmas decorations) so I removed all the decorations from the tree (most of them are made from glass so this is a task which takes concentration and a steady hand!) and then carried the tree out of the house. The room looks very bare and dull now.
The festivities were very good, thank you, with far too much chocolate :=) The first kung fu class was a bit earlier this week and, as usual after the Christmas holiday and over-eating, was a bit painful!
I hope that 2016 will be a good year for you. Must check your LJ for any updates!

...the porters traditionally wear bowler hats...
And the snowmen, I see. Such splendid cakes. I particularly like the tiny icing marble busts with their classical hairstyles.
Happy New year!

And the cakes are marvelous works of art. I especially like the whimsy of the gardner's cake.
Happy New Year to you. May 2016 bring you the best of everything.
