OMG OMG OMG look what I just bought:

Manic Street Preachers at Paradise Rock Club
Thursday 10/08/09
Show: 9:00 p.m.

They never tour the U.S. EVER! I thought they were banned from coming here because they were friends with Castro or something. Holy shit.

So... who wants to go with me?

FUCK! Let me peruse the finances! That's incredible, and I totally have a mate's mate who can get you to the afterparty with a bit of luck and a following wind!

Really?? Who is your mate's mate? Does he/she live in Boston? I don't think any of my friends here are into them. I bought two tickets, but they are general admission, so I could probably buy more (until they sell out).

Bugger. I thought it was August and I was going to have to buy plane tickets quick. But it's in October, isn't it? I'm in Sorrento with my parents for my Mum's 60th - paid the balance last week...

The mate's mate is - you met Geoff and/or Steph in Birmingham with me, yeah? Steph's mate's husband is Sean Moore's schoolfriend. He got me into the after party a couple of years ago in Cardiff, which is where the horrific picture of me looking fatter than a 40 year old drummer came from...

Oh that's too bad. You are in Sorrento at the same time as the show?

Hmm.. cool, see if you can pull some strings with these people who know Sean.

Did they find their lead singer?

LOL no, they've had a replacement for a good 15 years now. People are pretty sure the other dude jumped off a bridge.

AHEM.

James Dean Bradfield was always the lead singer and lead (and rhythm) guitarist. Richey just wrote most of the lyrics, sang a few quiet backing vocals, and played the guitar only fractionally better than I do - he basically just stood on the stage and pouted while his amp was turned off. There's a hilarious Glastonbury video out there somewhere where the sound engineer assumed Richey was the lead guitarist and turned him up in the mix...
