The one with...the midnight feed
Date: 21st September 2008
Characters involved: Jin (24), Kazuya (22), Hayato (2), Ryu and Shuji (4 months)
Marshmallows, marshmallows everywhere. Jin drooled as he saw the fluffy little marshmallows dancing around him, begging him to eat them. Oh and there was a tempura man beckoning Jin towards him, Jin reached out towards tempura man whilst licking his lips. Tempura man dipped himself in some sauce and danced around marshmallow valley. Jin reached tempura man and readied himself to take a bite out of the yummy little tempura.
“Jin” Jin groaned, he didn’t want anyone to interrupt his time with tempura man.
“Jin!” Suddenly tempura man changed into Kazuya who slapped Jin’s face. Jin jolted awake, the wonderful land of the marshmallows replaced by four blue walls. Jin groaned sleepily, Kazuya was sitting up and rubbing his eyes.
“It’s your turn to feed the boys” Jin buried his face in his pillow, ignoring his beloved Kazuya until Kazuya nipped the older man’s side. Jin squeaked and glared sleepily at his wife who had laid back down and buried himself under the covers. Jin sighed and wiped the drool on his chin before sitting up and getting out of bed. He could hear them now, well him. Shuji was the crier whilst Ryu was always completely silent, well almost always. The boy had some temper on him.
Jin dressed himself and padded towards the large cot, Shuji was blinking up at him tearily whilst Ryu was busying himself with a toy poodle. Jin smiled at the false innocence in those eyes; he knew they were as manipulative as their mother. Not that he minded. Jin carefully picked up Shuji, when he placed the baby on his hip the boy buried his head in his papa’s neck. Jin bit his lip to prevent shrieking when Shuji tickled his collar bone. Ryu quietly reached up his hands to his papa and Jin picked him up too. When both boys were comfortable and safe Jin made his way to the door, thankfully it was open (he had learned the hard way not to close the door when he had to carry twins) and Jin slipped easily into the hall.
Ryu and Shuji were mewling softly to each other and Jin wondered what they were saying; he wondered if they were talking about their upcoming bottle, or perhaps they were discussing his own rather eccentric clothes choice. His shirt was inside out and he had put on Kazuya’s much tighter trousers in the dark. They headed into the kitchen and Jin laid the two on the table whilst he got to work heating up their bottles. He just hoped they didn’t fall off: that was all he needed.
Jin moved about the kitchen, he filled the kettle and boiled it before getting the bottles out of the fridge. When the kettle finished boiling he poured the water into two jars and placed a bottle in each. He made sure to keep the boys busy so they wouldn’t start crying, making funny faces and tickling them. He moved the jars into the living room, hissing as the hot water splashed onto his hand in his hurry. When the jars were safely on the coffee table Jin went back into the kitchen to fetch the twins.
As he stepped into the kitchen he noticed Ryu had rolled himself over to the edge and he caught the boy before he could fall, Jin picked up Shuji who was wriggling away impatiently and brought the two into the living room. Jin sat down onto the couch and lay Ryu down onto the couch; Shuji would scream if he was put down again. He reached over to the jar to see if the bottle was hot enough but groaned when he realised it was still cold. He was so tired and just wanted to go back to bed. Instead he busied himself with tickling Ryu and kissing Shuji repeatedly to make the two laugh.
After some time Jin tested the bottle again: perfect. Shuji would have to be fed first of course: there was no way his baby boy would watch patiently whilst Ryu was enjoying his bottle. Jin made sure Shuji was comfortable in his arm before giving the boy his bottle. He clutched at the bottle and greedily gulped it down, Ryu was looking up at them with a pout and Jin just knew it was going to be one of those nights. He kept the bottle in place with his chin and used his free hand to distract Ryu, he always loved getting his belly rubbed and Jin hoped it would stop any screaming. Jin gave a great yawn as he waited for Shuji to finish; he had to get up at six after this so he really wanted to get back to bed.
Eventually Shuji finished and Jin put the empty bottle on the table, he took Ryu’s bottle out of the jar so it could cool down. Shuji blinked his eyes rather blearily and Jin smiled at the cute expression, he hoisted Shuji up to his shoulder and began to pat his back. No matter how tired they both were Shuji had to be winded or else he’d wake up screaming. He heard a small burp followed by a yawn and decided that was good enough, Shuji was already asleep so he wouldn’t mind being put down. Ryu was also falling asleep; he kept giving cute little yawns and rubbing his eyes with his small fists. Jin put Shuji down on his other side and picked up the sleepy Ryu. When he was in his papa’s arms Ryu cuddled into the warmth and gave another cute yawn. Jin blew on his face and chuckled at the screwed up face: Ryu needed to be awake enough for this feed.
As Ryu gulped down his bottle Jin felt his eyes closing slowly and he yawned widely. He really wanted to get back to bed, but the couch was pretty comfy. Okay no it wasn’t, it was lumpy and had strange stains on it but their bed wasn’t much better. And besides Jin just couldn’t be bothered moving, maybe he could just lay Ryu and Shuji on the couch and fall asleep like this. Jin looked down at Ryu with sleepy eyes and smiled tiredly at the sleepy gaze pointed back at him. He felt his eyelids close and his grip on the bottle loosened.

Kazuya yawned as he padded into the living room: Jin didn’t come back to bed last night so he could only assume the older man had fallen asleep again. Lo and behold there he was, with Ryu tucked securely in one arm and the other dangling by his side. An unfinished bottle was on the floor by Jin’s feet, drops of milk around it. Shuji was perched rather precariously on the edge of the couch and Kazuya had to quickly pick up the sleeping baby to make sure there were no accidents. With Shuji in his arms Kazuya made his way back to the bedroom, he placed Shuji in the cot and tucked him in nicely. He made his way back to the living room and when he reached Jin he kissed the top of the older man’s head, hoping to gently wake him up. Unfortunately Jin slept like the dead and so Kazuya gathered up Ryu in his arms and reached out a hand to swipe at Jin’s collarbone. Jin’s eyes immediately snapped open and his mouth opened in a shriek, before Jin could make such a noise however Kazuya covered the man’s mouth with his hand so only a whimper was let out.
When he was sure Jin wouldn’t make any noise Kazuya removed his hand and kissed his husband softly with a smile. Jin glared at Kazuya but this left his face when Kazuya kissed him. When they parted they both sighed softly and smiled at each other. Their moment was interrupted by a quiet whimper followed by a loud scream. Kazuya jumped slightly and looked at Ryu who was screaming, Jin cursed quietly.
“Sorry I fell asleep before winding him” Kazuya smacked the back of his husbands head and tried his hardest to quieten the young baby. Ryu’s screams were answered by Shuji’s cries.
“I’ll go get Shuji” Kazuya simply glared at Jin as the older man got off the couch and left the living room to attend to Shuji. Kazuya rubbed and patted Ryu’s back but the boy wouldn’t let up, he felt his heart break listening to the desperate cries and kissed his baby on both cheeks. Hugging Ryu to his chest Kazuya made his way into the kitchen to get the gripe water. It was too early for another feed so Kazuya filled up a teaspoon and carefully gave it to Ryu. Although he was reluctant Kazuya managed to give him it.
“Mama? Up?” Hayato was standing in the doorway, his pyjamas were disarrayed and his hair was a mess, he was sleepily rubbing his eyes and Kazuya couldn’t help but smile at the cute sight. Kazuya made his way over and bent down to peck the top of Hayato’s head.
“No sweetheart Ryu just has an upset stomach; you don’t have to get up for another hour” Hayato yawned widely and cuddled into Kazuya; Ryu had quietened down but was still whimpering softly.
“Ryu sick?” Although he would usually scold Hayato for not speaking properly Kazuya couldn’t deny it was pretty cute. Instead he put his free arm around Hayato and made himself for comfortable on the ground.
“He has a sore tummy” Hayato’s eyes widened upon hearing this. He instantly reached over and gathered Ryu’s red face in his pudgy hands; Hayato leaned forward to give Ryu a big kiss on the lips.
“Hayato kiss it better” Kazuya could barely contain the squeal. By far the best thing about having children was seeing cute moments like this. He picked Hayato up, making sure both were secure and went back into the living room. Jin was already there with a sleeping Shuji over his shoulder. When Kazuya entered the room Jin turned around with a worried expression, his expression turned to relief however when he noticed Ryu wasn’t crying anymore. Kazuya made his way to the small couch and Jin scooted over so there was enough room. When he sat down Hayato left his mother and cuddled into his papa and Jin kissed the top of his head.
“Want to go back to bed?” Jin stroked Hayato’s face lightly and the little boy yawned quietly but he shook his head.
“Hayato protect Ryu” Jin smiled and pulled Hayato closer.
“Is Ryu alright?” This time he directed it to Kazuya who sighed and nodded, he was lightly patting Ryu’s back and rocking the baby gently back to sleep. “I’m so sorry Kazuya, I didn’t mean to fall asleep I swear” Kazuya rolled his eyes.
“I know Jin, just be grateful I’m far more competent than you are” Jin smiled slightly at the joking tone: he knew wasn’t completely off the hook but this would have to do. The two parents leaned back into the couch, they had to prepare for the day but for now they were content to listen to Hayato’s soft snores and the twins’ soft breathing.
For those who don't know gripe water is a magical concoction which helps babies with wind
You may think that it would take time but trust it shuts them up
Almost as good as whiskey
I am not a bad aunt okay! I do not give my niece or nephews copious amounts of whiskey to shut them up
It's a well known fact that it helps them sleep...
Don't judge me T__T
Lol anyway the next one should be up this weekend, monday at the lastest
I kept yawning when writing this, it's such a sleepy fic lol
Ciao ♥
