[ Winry has been coping pretty well with her new environment. Some mornings still feel strange, when she wakes up in a house that isn't hers, but she's learning to adapt. She's even gotten into the hang of school and sometimes pays attention.
But one thing is bothering her. There's one thing about Mayfield that's been tugging at her worse than ( Read more... )

There are worse things to be jealous of.

I'm sure, but... being jealous of their happiness... that's pretty low.

No, it's human. I'd be jealous, myself - and I don't even know them! That must be even worse, envying strangers like that.

I'm sure it's not but... but thanks. It helps, hearing that...

[Izumo looks up in surprise at Winry. She's sort of been sitting alone these past few days, scorning the drones, and for some reason or other, Rin and Yukio aren't around to bug her into not being antisocial. There are Reasons people tend to stay away from her, including the fact that she is capable of being a massive weirdo bitch, though she supposes those Reasons haven't really been revealed in Mayfield.]

[Still...]

Does it look taken?

Heh, I guess not. Hope you don't mind if I join you, then.

[ Because that's what she's doing! Winry takes a seat by Izumo and begins opening her lunch box. ] I don't think we've met. Name's Winry.

[She may have. But she doesn't say anything. Shut up she wasn't lonely. 8|]

Kamiki Izumo. [Last name first, as always. Then a suspicious glance.] You're not a drone, are you?

Death means very little here, child, perhaps your parents will show up as well. My son is here after being dead for some time, anything is possible. I understand your feelings of jealousy but don't give up hope that your own parents will arrive.

That sounds really nice... I'm really glad for you. Being together for this "christmas" especially...

But I wonder... if hoping for that is okay for me?

We don't have Christmas, but it is nice to be reunited any time of year.

You are free to wish whatever you would like, be it for the return of your parents, something selfish or selfless.

My mom, I mean. You sound like a really nice person.

Excuse me if this is improper, as I do not know you, but I would suggest that you are not hoping that your friends did not have their parents, yes? You merely wish that yours was here as well. Which is nothing to be ashamed of.

Haha, I guess you're right... maybe I'm just overthinking this.

Sorry to bother you with such a gloomy phonecall.

It is no bother! I, too, miss my family and wish they could be with me, albeit perhaps not in a place such as this.

I guess you've got a point there... I don't think I want to wish Mayfield upon anyway.

... I'm Winry, by the way.

[This round smiling face is poking out of the branches now, where Al had been enjoying the warmth and sort of hiding from incoming snowballs.]

I don't think Brother would like that very much...

[He reaches out and takes her hand, pulling her into the branches where it's warmer.]

About ten minutes, it's nice and warm in here.

Hey-! [ Following him anyway. And she's surprised to realize that he's right. ] ... huh. Well, I guess these lights would get pretty warm if they're on all day. I just hope this isn't where all of the power is going.
