A/N sorry for the lame that oozes from this oneshot. i didn't want this one to be about icecream or angst but that's just what it became. I cringed reading this, so i avoided editting it =x
015. Lick
it's nice when people offer a taste of their ice cream.
“Have a seat, I‘ll chase away the boredom.”
The problem is one lick leads to another and another, then “just one lick” becomes just too many.
“Don’t stick around long though, you might end up liking me too much.”
The solution is to refuse the offer.
“I guess some things can’t be helped. Amazing how narcissism captures the best of us, huh?”
The temptation to avoid the solution is strong, sometimes…ice cream appealed more when it belonged to someone else.

Hankyung thinks Heechul is like ice cream.
If Hankyung tried hard enough, sometimes he could look discreetly at Heechul without ever getting caught. On most occasions, when Heechul does catch him staring he tells Hankyung to “take a picture, it’ll last longer.” What Heechul didn’t know was that Hankyung has taken pictures, an abundance of pictures. Pictures of Heechul laughing, crying, yelling (these more often than not), smiling, sleeping, eating, and once he was even able to snap a picture of Heechul, hair in tangles and drool caked dry on the side of his face. But with those pictures, no matter how much Hankyung cherished them, he found that they paled in comparison to the real person.
Ice cream doesn’t taste good any way else besides on the tongue.
Sometimes, if Hankyung was careful he could hold Heechul a second longer than anyone and not give away his affection. When he gets careless, just holds Heechul two seconds too long, Heechul grumbles “hug someone else idiot.” Heechul doesn’t know that hugging Eeteuk is too warm, Kangin too cold, Ryeowook too timid, Sungmin too giggly, Siwon too tight, Kyuhyun too lax, Yesung too awkward, Shindong too familiar. And hugging Donghae lead to Eunhyuk twisting his ear, speaking Korean too fast for Hankyung to understand. Heechul was perfect, hot where it counted, warm where it didn’t, and cold where he liked it. Heechul hugged like he meant it but acted like he didn’t. Perfect.
Ice cream doesn’t taste satisfying under any flavor but the preferred.
So when Hankyung is told he’ll be joining a sub group miles away from perfection, he is scared and excited, just plain torn between being happy and begging to stay. He misses China, the people, the food, the language, but he‘ll miss Heechul more. And maybe it’s because he feels so happy that he’s so scared. SJM is everything he could ask for, but Heechul is everything he is too much of a coward to ask for.
And he doesn’t plan to ask because Heechul smiles, helps him pack, does everything with so much ease as if it doesn’t matter that he is leaving next week. It probably doesn’t. Not to Heechul.
“I’m happy for you.” Heechul sounds so sincere, so unlike him. Hankyung can’t believe it, doesn’t want to believe because the more he hears the more returning to China feels like leaving home.

He’s leaving in exactly an hour and 20 minutes. He wants to say what’s on his mind to the smiling Heechul, a Heechul that has been smiling nonstop for the past week. And he probably would if he wasn’t being thrown around between the members. Warm hugs, tears, and long goodbye speeches keep him away from Heechul who spends his time wishing the other members of SJM good luck. Then there are the fans shouting out protests of SJM departure, snapping pictures with their cameras every time someone as much as blinks.
When it’s time to board the plane, Heechul only has 2 minutes to squeeze in a goodbye to Hankyung. It starts with a smile and ends with a smile. Somewhere in between, the line Hankyung hates most, “I’m happy for you.”
Heechul is just like ice cream. Full of flavor, in demand, only available after having finished the vegetables.

On the plane, Hankyung doesn’t cry. He hadn’t lost anything. Losing something requires primary possession and Heechul was never anything close to being his.
So he will be okay. He has to be.
